My gift to @isilloth for the @officialtolkiensecretsanta, who requested a fic about Aredhel and/or Caranthir/Haleth. Well you get Aredhel, and a side of Caranthir/Haleth, in a Modern AU.

Summary : If she can get her life together, and if her family doesn't have anything to say Aredhel might just survive this Christmas. And then become the person she always wanted to be. Who knows?

In the spring of Nargothrond, Maeglin crafts a necklace, Finduilas plans a festival, and both confront a few truths about themselves.

How I feel about this character

She’s my gurl! I love her so much!

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Aredhel/Celegorm is the absolute OTP. I just ... love them together, okay? Their dynamics; their mutual interests. They are just .. perfect together. But since I also ship C/C, I guess I am shipping C/C/A because damn: Aredhel ships C/C HARD.

And then there’s this very nasty one-sided unhealthy pining for what I can’t have Aredhel ship in Gondolin 🙉🙊

... and well, Gondolin - Aredhel/Glorfindel? D: because yes, I’m here for that. I’m here for Glorfindel/Ecthelion/Aredhel, too :D

And somebody recently wrote Haleth/Aredhel, AND HELL YES. That was a good fic.

My unpopular opinion about this character

Can anything about Aredhel be unpopular? I genuinely doubt it, but: Nan Elmoth was 100% abuse and you can pry this from my cold dead hands.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

How I feel about this character: okay so I didn’t actually care too much about her except for anger on her behalf UNTIL I started writing Blessed Hands and she suddenly became the best Nolofinwëan sibling ever. So I guess the lesson is “write and learn to love her”? Maybe?

All the people I ship romantically with this character: uhhhh nobody. absolutely no one. except maybe Amdis, who’s an OC from BH? And that’s just me going “what sounds best to this local useless lesbian” tbh

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Aredhel/happiness. More than really anybody else.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don’t really have much interest in her relationship with Eöl being happy or healthy or good. I’ve never understood the urge to make that situation into a happy family, and it’s not something I’ll ever really explore in fanworks I don’t think.
