Perhaps the strangest thing in his grandson’s war camp was Gwindor. The former thrall of Angband, missing both a pinky and an eye, was the first thing anyone noticed when they approached the young High King. He stood at Gil-Galad’s right hand, the head of the king’s personal guard, a presence as steady as the steel at his hip. There was nothing ceremonial in the way he carried himself, no courtly bow, no polished armor. He looked like a man who had walked through fire and come out the other side knowing exactly how much of him the flames had taken.
