Scar spent secret life very much alone. He was the βbad guyβ and played solo. And during the finale, he killed a LOT of people. So when it came down to him and Pearl, I think he didn't want to be the villain anymore. I think he might have remembered Third Life, and how, after everything he and Grian went through, he betrayed him. In part, he blamed that moment for why Grian didn't care about his double life, because he never knew about Grian's own internal struggles. Seeing Pearl here, he cant do it again.
On Pearls part, I think Scott indirectly taught her a lot of unheathy love languages. What does Scott do over and over? He kills himself. If he cares about anyone, he immediatly goes into maytr mode, and dies for them. Pearl sees this, and thinks, hey, if I want to let Scar know I care, mabye thats the way to do it. I need to die for him, because thats the only way love has been shown to her. But that doesnt make Scar feel loved. That makes him feel guilty, and alone.Β
They fight Gem together, and of course, Pearl ends up dying. And that breaks Scar. He doesnt even belive it until Grian tells him.Β
I think this was a moment of refection for Scar. Being all alone, the person he cared about most dead because of him, this almost perfectly parrels Grians win in third life. Scar spent so long blaming himself and Grian for their seperation, and now he understands. If keeping Pearl away from him would prevent this from happening again, Scar would do it. He doesnt blame Grian anymore. He understands.
Since Scar, or at least part of him, is stuck in secret life, his first act is to haul her body out of that ravine and give her a proper burial with a solom goodbye and a crown of sunflowers woven in her hair. He lays her to rest in the sunflower vally and visits every day to βtalkβ with her.Β
Since Pearls a winner too, she can visit him every once in a while with permission from the watchers, and it breaks her heart each time to leave him again.Β
Scar wishes he could go with her, wishes he was able to go live a real life, but its okay, and Pearl never misses a visit. He is content as he grows old and dies in secret life with his sunflower right beside him.
And once heβs gone, Scar wakes up, young and free. Pearl is there, and heβs back home on hermicraft until the next game.Β
