With your back to the city's railway station, head straight for 20 or so minutes along 'Corso Cornelio Tacito', then past 'Piazza della Repubblica' and you'll end up at the charming historic centre replete with quiet alleyways and picturesque palaces like Palazzo Spada (see photos 5 and 6), the Cathedral of Terni called 'Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta' (see photo 8), and the iconic 'Torre Barbarasa' (see photos 1 and 2) which is the best-preserved tower in Terni. This Umbrian city is overshadowed by the regional capital Perugia – a city bursting with culture, history and art – as well as the many beautiful stone hill-top towns and villages dotted around the glorious green countryside. But give Terni a chance—you won't regret it!
