softbody transformers are kinda overhated…
I think the Strange New Worlds writers room may have taken the wrong lessons from Subspace Rhapsody and A Space Adventure Hour and just gone all in on sheer zaniness. That’s disappointing when you look at episodes like A Quality of Mercy—which felt like the best episodes of TAS and TNG, and The Serene Squall, which also did that but was funny without being self-consciously wacky. Lower Decks and Prodigy proves Trek can be funny without devolving into buffonery.
Spock hates hijinks for a REASON.
True to life image of me in my new loafers
During one particular roadie Young,Holmberg, and LaPointe binge watch too many shows about supposedly haunted locations, and ghost hunters, which ends in them becoming convinced that one particular hotal they had been staying at is haunted.
But because they are weird they are less creeped out,and more excited to prove their theory, and play ghost hunters - cheap Temu EMT meters, and toy store Ouija board included.
Luca refuses to be involved. Not because he's scared but because this is even dumber than their usual antics. Okay, yeah, and because there is no way he's messing with the paranormal, you know, just to be on the safe side. He's,once again, the sane one here - just for the record.
They keep pestering the other Centaurs and their buddies on other teams, "interviewing" them and asking them to help compile "evidence". The Centaurs just fondly tease them about it and it becomes another found family in-joke - however they obliviously freak out *some* other rookies from other teams in an accidental psychological warfare kind of way.
The only exception are Bears and Detroit rookies who have the time of their lives *purposely* messing with whoever is gullible enough to trust them. To be honest the Bears just joke that they think that maybe some of the ghosts Connors seems to be seeing when he's staring off into space on the ice have decided they wanted to stay at that hotel for good since it's a nice place😂
This in turn leads to them and their buddies spending an entire season accidentally and not so accidentally creating their own urban legend/scary campfire story for dumbass hockey players which takes on a life of it's own amongst the next waves of fellow rookies and younger players on other teams.
And because hockey players are notoriously superstitious, love to mess with each other, and stories like this evolve over time, that devolves into add-ons of increasingly ridiculous "rituals" one has to perform to be safe and appease the murder ghosts lest one wants to curse their team/oneself,and/or get murdered by angry ghosts. Coaches are completely bewildered, except Wiebe,LeClair,Murdock,Detroit's and San Diego's coaches, who would like just one (1) week without chaos.
Ilya, being a chaos gremlin of epic proportions, loves watching the havoc his hockey children have unleashed, and happily helps stoke the flames whenever he can. Shane decides to go with Haasy's approach but secretly thinks Ilya's glee is weirdly cute/ entertaining. Their hockey kids aren't hurting anyone, and aren't distracted from their training/games so Shane just shrugs the whole thing of.
Busy with winning Cup after Cup,the Centaurs rookies end up forgetting about the whole thing until a few years later when they overhear a San Francisco player confidently tell a gaggle of his own rookies about the haunted hotel.
They triumphantly think that proves that there's been a haunting all along, and count it as a personal victory.

A peer of mine 'discovered' medicine recently.
He'd been having some light kidney ailments, trouble with the pissing. This was the case as we were heading out into the field.
We were in a place where stinging nettle was, if your unfamiliar, it's a tall plant thing, looks a bit like a fern, and its covered in tiny needles that'll give you a nasty rash if you look at it wrong.
We were going over the standard little briefing on nettle when my dear peer heard, that nettle stings, were a diuretic.... they made you piss.
No-one took notice of his notice, but his fate was sealed. When we were wading through a wetland, we passed by a large patch of the stuff, and when the peer grew close he flung off his shirt and dove into the nettle.
He actively rubbed it on himself.
About 2 days later he returned to existence absolutely beaming, and praising the magic of nettle (he had been absent with a nasty rash, naturally)
Ever since then, whenever he's near nettle, he rubs some on himself. Though he no longer gets any rashes from it, he's immunized himself.
He forgot exactly why the nettle did him well and now just holds it in high regard as a magical medicine.
