I think the Strange New Worlds writers room may have taken the wrong lessons from Subspace Rhapsody and A Space Adventure Hour and just gone all in on sheer zaniness. That’s disappointing when you look at episodes like A Quality of Mercy—which felt like the best episodes of TAS and TNG, and The Serene Squall, which also did that but was funny without being self-consciously wacky. Lower Decks and Prodigy proves Trek can be funny without devolving into buffonery.
Spock hates hijinks for a REASON.
