7.3" Cretaceous Heteromorph Ammonite (Didymoceras) - South Dakota
I was thinking about the headcanons revolving around the idea that Hawks and Spinner occasionally make chirping or clicking noises as heteromorphs, but here's another thought: Were the heteromorph characters like Spinner or Tokoyami who don't have a typical human mouth required to go to speech therapy so they could 'speak normally?' Or what if a heteromorph was born without a human larynx and physically can't make human vocalizations?
There's already heteromorph controversy in the My Hero world, so this just seems like a whole other layer to it.
Tokoyami probably didn't have a bad experience with it since he's from the city where the discrimination isn't as extreme. He probably got the, "Don't worry, being here doesn't mean something is wrong with you. We're just going to teach you some speaking techniques so you'll have an easier time communicating with others," treatment.
Meanwhile Shoji and Spinner probably got stuck with, "You're going to learn how to talk. Just because you're a freak doesn't mean you're going to sound like one."
Fanfic question for my Bnha fans: A Heteromorph whose quirk prevents them from physically shedding tears. Will snot still come from their noses while crying?
Clean face while crying. Snot needs tears.
Snotty face. Snot would come from their noses regardless of tears falling.
Shuichi Iguchi, also known as Spinner, experienced a difficult past due to discrimination caused by his lizard-like appearance, which led him to live as a shut-in playing video games. His life changed when he witnessed Stain's final stand on TV, becoming influenced by Stain's ideology and developing a desire to change society.
Key Events and Influence:
Joining the League of Villains: Spinner joined the Vanguard Action Squad, initially declaring his intention to fulfill Stain's dream. He showed unwavering loyalty to Stain's ideals, even questioning Tomura Shigaraki's motives when they seemed to deviate from Stain's vision.
Growing Doubts and Frustration: As the League of Villains struggled, Spinner grew increasingly frustrated with their lack of direction and success, often questioning Tomura's plans. He specifically voiced concerns about whether their actions, such as attacking the police, aligned with Stain's will.
Meta Liberation Army Arc: During the confrontation with the Meta Liberation Army, Spinner's resolve to support Tomura was renewed, particularly after witnessing Tomura's overwhelming power and triumph over Re-Destro. He became a lieutenant in the newly formed Paranormal Liberation Front, which he co-coined with Re-Destro.
Paranormal Liberation War Arc: Spinner played a significant role in the Paranormal Liberation War, leading the Brown Regiment. He showed deep concern for his comrades, emphasizing the League as a family and reminding Himiko that their group was what Twice considered family. He desperately tried to awaken an unconscious Tomura, even biting his head to rouse him.
Becoming a Symbol: All For One, recognizing Spinner's past and discrimination, manipulated him into becoming a symbol and leader for other heteromorphs who sought to tear down the old regime. Skeptic and the remnants of the Paranormal Liberation Front actively spread this message, using Spinner's image.
Receiving New Quirks and Mental Instability: All For One granted Spinner additional Quirks, Body Bulk and Scalemail, to make him appear as a "true leader". However, these new Quirks destabilized his mind, causing him to become increasingly unhinged and focused solely on following orders and retrieving Kurogiri.
Final Stand and Defeat: In the Final War, a gigantic and mentally unstable Spinner led an army of heteromorphs to free Kurogiri, believing it would help Tomura and destroy the status quo. Despite his determination, he was eventually defeated by Present Mic and Mezo Shoji, who questioned his actions and whether they truly served his cause.
Spinner's Legacy and Potential for Future Unrest:
After the war, Spinner was in recovery, with doctors stating he was becoming a Nomu due to the Quirks given to him by All For One. Despite the defeat of the villains, Spinner decided to write a book about Tomura Shigaraki's legacy, aiming to ensure that the "Symbol of Fear" and the League of Villains would not be forgotten by heroes. Eight years later, his book was successfully published.
While Spinner's initial goal was to change society for the better, influenced by Stain's ideals, it's highly probable that his actions and book did not fundamentally "fix" society. Instead, by attempting to tear down the existing hero society and focusing on revenge and destruction, the League of Villains, and by extension Spinner, likely perpetuated a cycle of conflict and resentment. His book, chronicling Tomura's destructive legacy and the grievances of the heteromorphs, could serve as a rallying cry for new generations of disillusioned individuals and groups.
Given the deeply ingrained discrimination faced by heteromorphs, as highlighted by Skeptic and Spinner's own past, the book could inspire new groups who feel marginalized and unheard. It could fuel a narrative of continued injustice, leading to the formation of new organizations or a resurgence of similar ideologies. The "past never dies," as Spinner himself stated, implying that the sentiments and struggles he chronicled would continue to resonate, potentially sparking further unrest and challenges to the established order, even if not directly leading to another large-scale war. His legacy might not be one of repair or peace, but rather one of preserving a narrative of grievances and inspiring those who feel the same, ensuring that the "fight to destroy" continues in different forms

my babies
I’m back on my mha bs so let me just say the way in which heteromorph discrimination is written and how Shoji speaks to the mob of heteromorphs was kinda refreshing to hear. I do like the underlying theme of angry not being inherently bad or evil which is not something you see a lot of.
WORDPLAY WEDNESDAY...and YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA ANSWERED
Happy Windsday everybody (it's pretty darn windy in eastern Oregon right now lol)
All right, down to business. First, let's answer yesterday's trivia: when did ammonites first evolve?
The middle Devonian Period around 410-385 million years ago!
Second, time to learn a new word! And that word is HETEROMORPH. This is a word I have used a bunch this month but what does it mean? Let's beak it down:
hetero-different
morph-to gradually change
therefore, heteromorph means to gradually change to something different. Our ammonites started with coiled shells with some gradually unfurling or curling in a different manner.
Isn't linguistics cool?
