as i have now introduced the Guys.............it is time to introduce the Girls.................... (LONG POST INCOMING...........NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART)
although the Guys are the main characters of the book because they are in the band and that is a very major part of what the book is about, there are still some very important Girls and i love them so much!!!!!!!!
josie rankin-taylor (sorry this is the only good drawing i have of her)
she is american, age 20 turning 21 (b. 1965), and an ISFJ
she is generally well-meaning, but can come off as cold initially--she is pretty shy and doesn't open up right away
she is a nursing major! very good at providing care
she works as a waitress at the diner (judas also works there) and she Does Not like waitressing! also hendy works at the diner and she HATES him so it is not exactly a funky good time
family is super SUPER important to her. but her parents are undergoing the process of divorce which is pretty much breaking her :(
her father is abusive and her parents have almost constant screaming matches, so she feels responsible for maintaining any order still left in the household
but her parents both want her to be on "their side" so she is constantly on the edge of a huge mental breakdown!!!!!!
shes also trying to emotionally/physically protect her younger sister from everything so yeah basically her brain is constantly pulled in 1898937886782 directions and she is spread thinner and thinner every day
probably she used to be way happier and making way more rational choices but the stress has its jaws around her neck so she's angrier and sadder and not making good decisions and then seeing this negative change perpetuate within herself makes her more upset with herself etc etc
a healthy dose of self loathing here
she's been on and off with shane for like years on end; when the story starts they aren't in a relationship tho
initially she is very cold towards judas (who has had a crush on her since forever) but then over time she warms up to him........quite a bit..........👀
she would so fit in on tumblr if she had a blog tbh
a Very Big Plot Point revolves around her
mainly she's trying to realize she has autonomy outside of what people are projecting onto her/want her to be
and also dealing with the difficult consequences of rash actions that she made because shes mentally breaking under stress
so yeah! she's not a bad person per se but also not a great one! but ya know what if that aint the human condition idk what is
one of my friends lowkey hates her and i guess it is easy to feel that way cuz she does do a pretty significant Bad Thing
but mainly her character is meant to be a look at autonomy/how much are we really controlled by our environments/difficult moral choices even when we're overwhelmed, and dealing with the fallout of bad choices
just the difficulty and complexity and messiness of being a person tbh
kathleen peters (why am i JUST NOW realizing her and josie look similar....but seriously they could not be more different)
she is american, age 18 (b. 1968), and an ESTJ
she is very organized and very very responsible!!! if you want something to get done or be managed kathleen is the gal for the job
honesty is extremely important to her--she values it a lot in herself and in others
she LOVES school and is really involved in her high school!! president of the student council, on every committee imaginable, super academic and a very high achiever
spends practically every waking moment on her schoolwork and studies to the point where she sometimes passes up doing fun stuff or going out with friends even though shes already doing great in school
we respect the grind 💪 but also please do something fun for once in your life girl 💪💪
she is cheerful and sensible, likes to listen and give advice
she is Very Aware that chris has a humongous crush on her but she isnt totally sure what to do about that or whether or not she wants to date him
spoiler alert they do end up dating but we'll see how that goes!!!!!!!!
she is very caring and looks out for her friends as well, but is very mindful of the company she keeps and tries to surround herself with "good influences"
sometimes she misses out on people who could use her care and help because of that though
she can be kinda judgmental and stubborn
but overall mainly she struggles to rest and do things that are fun, always aching to be responsible about everything ever so she gotta realize that sometimes the best lessons are learned from mistakes and not being perfect all the time
heather gray
she is american, age 17 (turns 18), b. 1968, and an INFP
she is a creative person, very emotional, and fairly shy and quiet
she spends a lot of her spare time painting/drawing/etc, and uses that as an emotional release
she is probably depressed :( feels very sad and very insecure a lot of the time, and struggles especially with her body image
fashion is pretty important to her, it helps her deal with some of her woes about her body. purple is her favourite colour to wear
oh and she's goth! back in the 80s when goth was just beginning teehee she loves goth/alt bands (the cure, bauhaus, siouxsie and the banshees, joy division etc)
spends a lot of time daydreaming but she's still a pretty good student
although she is shy, she's good with people and especially so with kids - she likes babysitting, and sits for chris's siblings fairly often
very sentimental, and cares a lot about hendy. they've been dating for 3-4 years and he asked her out first but she quickly grew to really love him and they work really well together :))) he would kill for her and she would make so much art for him/about him........beautiful
she likes listening to people and is often the quiet one out of her friend group, she's pretty good friends with kathleen and some of the other girls at her school. she is also friends with chris and of course hendy (her and hendy are so best friends who are also dating core actually)
but feels like she's not fully understood (hendy does his best to always listen to her and make her feel known and loved though)
she is mostly pretty sensible and responsible but sometimes suffers intense depressive episodes that make it really hard for her to do stuff
also a Very Very Big Thing happens to her in the book and i dont want to spoil it outright (if anybody wants to know ill tell them) but it's pretty life changing (for both her and boyfriend) so she has to learn to cope with that
mainly she is learning to receive love well and be less hard on herself

lmk if i should also make a post about the parents in this book because chris's parents especially have a significant part in the story!!!
