Send “ah, fuck it” To Shove My Muse Up Against A Wall For A Surprise Kiss
Vergil and Henley stood side by side at the kitchen sink, cleaning the last of the dishes from dinner. Usually, the simple routine would have been filled with teasing and conversation, but tonight there was a heaviness neither of them could quite ignore.
It was Vergil’s last night in town. Tomorrow, he would be on a plane for the six-hour flight back to base, and neither of them wanted to acknowledge how quickly that moment was approaching. For now, they had this—one last quiet evening together before distance separated them again.
Vergil had just set another clean plate aside when Henley suddenly turned toward him. Before he could ask what was wrong, she grabbed him and pushed him back against the wall. Then her lips met his.
Vergil froze for only a heartbeat before kissing her back. It was the most powerful kiss he could remember sharing with her, carrying everything neither of them had managed to put into words that night. His hands found her waist instinctively as Henley pressed closer, neither willing to be the first to pull away.
Somewhere between one breath and the next, Vergil lifted her onto the counter. Henley remained close, his hands still resting firmly at her waist as their kiss deepened, the unfinished dishes beside them completely forgotten.
Eventually, they had no choice but to break apart for air.
Vergil remained between her knees, breathing heavily as he looked into her eyes. A quiet chuckle escaped him.
“Well,” he murmured, a crooked smile appearing on his face. “I guess that’s one way to tell me you’re going to miss me.”
