Because I’m trying to not think about how awful everything is, something I’m really proud about that came out of this season.
I learned that I can base moderately well and have the strength to base people that are taller and weigh more than me.
My earlier performance life, I assumed I could only be a flier and I allowed myself to only allow myself to fall into that niche. Early on this season, they tried pairing us up to learn basic partnering. In a moment of boldness, I tried both the basing and the flying portions and found success on each. Fast forwards to the end of the season, I was full on lifting people a foot taller than me and at least 30 lbs heavier with relative ease (the basing position makes a difference, so I’m not deadlifting them...yet).
I’m going to work on my upper body strength a lot this summer with handbalancing training, so we’ll see where I’m at during auditions. I’d love to be able to lift a person above my head.
Circus strong 💪🏼
I need way more push strength, but I have my eyes set on pike presses as one of my goals
Now that my presses are back to being a thing, it’s time to start working returns to clean them up and condition
I spent years yelling at colorguards to “point your toes!!” and I need to remember to practice what I preach. Coach called me out for not fully pointing (I was pointing, just not at my full engagement) and as soon as I made that correction, I found a whole new level of stability in my handstands. Probably because it made me squeeze my ass and pulled my feet into the correct position in my tuck handstand. Game changer right there. Point your damn toes, ya’all

I want to work towards a clean straddle press and eventually a clean pike press. My coach gave us these exercises to add to our regular conditioning
Guys, new favorite handstand drill. I don’t know what it’s called, but you do an L-kick up, swivel through straddle and end passing through L on the opposite side. It’s a switch kick drill, but on crack. I love it!
Only two of us stayed for handstand classes last night, so he had a more loosely structured class and we tried a bunch of really fun drills. We also worked on our straddle flexibility which is heaven
My rest day turned into a handbalancing day (I think I’ll take Sunday off instead) because I got super excited during my drills and found a lot of stability! It’s because I pointed my toes 😛
I was working on my straddle switches and found that when I get my balance, I can swivel back and forth with control! I had a really good tuck to straight line transition and press that I didn’t get on video, but I’m super pleased with last night
