for anybody whoâs interested in a-level languages, weâve been studying âlâauberge espagnoleâ since february half term. hereâs a bit about the process so far:
we first looked at the context for the film, and the director, cĂŠdric klapisch.
then, we looked at the main characters and how they are generally presented (plus, some background on the actors too).
i made a character file for each of the characters (focusing on the stereotypes they fall into, as cultural identity is a very prominent theme)
we brainstormed scenes relating to each of the themes suggested by the exam board
then we briefly looked at individual shots of scenes, to make sure i was secure in my knowledge of the storyline
we also did a sort of written âhot-seatingâ to get inside the heads of some of the main characters
we also took a lesson to research quotes online, however, i found that most of them only fell into one theme, so im going to have to go on a quote hunt when i next watch the film
for my first try at writing an essay, i was given three options to plan and discuss with my teacher, before choosing the one i felt most comfortable with
one of the most beneficial lessons for me, was watching the final scene of the film (arguably the most famous) and making a storyboard that i annotated with cinematic techniques and links to themes
