My alias is Cirrostratus, but you can call me Cirro :)

I am posting my results [of wh/ I’m incrEdibly proud] as an introduction to my future study channel [premieres sept] as well as a source of inspo since my circumstances were quite unusual…

ENGLISH LANGUAGE 4EA1: 9 [140/150]

ENGLISH LITERATURE 8702: 9 [wasn’t given points]

MATHEMATICS 4MA1: 8 [145/200]

BIOLOGY 4BI1: 9 [140/180]

HUMAN BIOLOGY 4HB1: 8 [141/180]

CHEMISTRY 4CH1: 8 [135/180]

PHYSICS 4PH1: 9 [139/180]

GEOGRAPHY 4GE1: 8 [132/175]

Before I introduce myself, can I say how grateful I am for my results? Lord… especially in Geography – I’d have gladly taken a 6 or 7 any time, but I’d actually gotten a solid 8. 

Plus, although I was 4 marks off a 9 [my mock grade] in Maths, my 9 in English Lang was two grades up from my mock! Idk how I’d done it!

First of all, I left my state school in year 10 in December/January 2018 because my teachers weren’t catering to my needs. Since then, I began self-teaching each subject from CGP revision guides and free online resources.

I had been studying different subjects too:

French [fun but not when homeschooling]

Digital Applications [ugh I had to do a creative subject when I’m academic]

Religious Studies [screw that crapulence]

But I dropped them once leaving school while replacing French for Human Biology. My exam boards had to change from mainly AQA to Edexcel International so I wouldn’t have to do fieldwork or practicals [expensive when out of school] so I had to start from the beginning in all subjects except AQA English Lit.

My self-teaching was centred around making flashcards for each revision guide page, followed by exam-style questions. However, for Human Bio and Geog, I had to use the Edexcel-endorsed textbooks [nothing else available], and youtubers Mr Salles and Stacey Reay for English Lit. For maths, I used my school membership to Mathswatch and Mymaths [they hadn’t deleted it lmao]. I did literally nothing for English Language b/c the required skills overwhelmed me.

Once it reached September 2018. I joined a 1-year fast track to IGCSE English Language and IGCSE Maths at an online school. My teachers were amazing; come mocks, I leapt from a grade 4-5 in school [where teachers weren’t helping me] to a grade 9 in Maths! And my English Language went from a low 6 to a moderate grade 7. 

I struggled mostly with English Language [confidence, mostly], Physics [ugh I hated the practicals and real life links but I loved the rest] and  Geography – in fact, I once begged my mum to let me drop Geography [which she refused, partially bc she’d already booked the exam].

The struggle continued with English Language [paper 2] where I panicked about the narrative I had to write. During my online schooling, I’d been set narrative homeworks which I’d never finished due to overthinking and fear. However, with help from prayers, I sensed an idea forming… I had to act upon it, else I’d lose 40 marks.

I’m so thankful that I had done so. My results showed something Mum had always told me: my only limit was my thoughts – not the fact that I’d lost half of year 10 or my potential. 

This is why I’m posting this. I don’t want to arrogantly flex my grades nor cast down anyone who’d achieved lower results than me. However, I am immensely proud of myself for what I’d done. I cannot believe my luck! 

Also, if you think you’re doomed to get crappy grades in a crappy subject, it ain’t true. GCSEs aren’t bonkers like A-Level so you could survive on regurgitation of knowledge onto the exam paper. However, this does not make you worth anything less if you haven’t done so.
