This is a 13-year-old Rosean named Gazzette with her dog Watson from my story ‘The Banished Clan’.

Their dog greeted Gazzette as she walked up to the door, his chain jingling as his whole body seemed to wag in delight. Watson was a Brittany, the bird hunting dog her father had trained. Watson’s fur was red and white, and he had a heart-shaped marking on his forehead that Gazzette adored. Watson loved running free in the vast fields on the search for game, but after her father’s death Watson was mostly a house pet now. Occasionally her sister Carmen would take him out into the fields to hunt since she was a good shot with an arrow when they needed meat.

“Sorry Watt, I don’t have any biscuits for you,” she told him quietly as she patted his head. The dog whined as she passed him and went into the house. Her mother was at the fireplace.

“Hello Gazzette,” she greeted, looking over her shoulder at her youngest daughter.

“Hi Mommy,” replied Gazzette.

“Now why are you so dirty?” her mother inquired.

“I was digging,” she answered simply as she slowly slid the basket’s straps off her shoulders and put it gently on the low table. Carefully she took out the red bundle hidden beneath the freshly picked herbs. The plants fell onto the table haphazardly.
