Whumptober Day 22: Possession

Loki raises an eyebrow and holds precisely the right amount of eye contact - not looking away, which anyone can read as falsehood, but not overly steady either, a clear mark of someone trying too hard to look honest. “Of course not.”

The Grandmaster laughs delightedly. “You are! You do realize that’s entirely impossible, yes? A telepathic connection, I’ve certainly known people who can lie through, but you understand that I’m feeling your thoughts as you feel them, not just receiving the ones you project to me?”

Loki shrugs, every muscle in his body conveying how relaxed he is, how much the innocent don’t need to fear being found out. “I’m not.”

1. Green Things; MCU, currently 500 words

Bruce goes looking for Loki because he wants to fight. Well no, that's not strictly accurate. If he wanted to fight, he'd find Val, have Hulk take over, and let them duke it out down in the landing bay, like he's been told they do to blow off the steam when Hulk has been driving for a while and starts to get restless. Or, indeed, when Val is the one with an edge that needs to be battered dull. No. Bruce goes looking for Loki because he wants to argue.

2. Berkano; MCU, complete at 2.5k

Loki and Thor have been playing Valkyrior for nearly a whole hundred years, which is a very large amount of their lives so far — almost half of Loki's, in fact. It happens to be one of their most favorite games. The true Valkyrior are all gone now, but Thor says he and Loki shall form the group anew. Loki has no reason to doubt his word.

They are three weeks aboard the Statesman when the cold sets upon Loki. It is not an entirely novel sensation, though neither is it much familiar. The few times it had happened in his youth, Loki had thought it to be some sort of illness, perhaps of a magical sort given none of his less seidr-minded cohorts ever complained of its symptom — which at the time had been even on its own plenty enough reason for Loki to tell not a soul. Now, Loki thinks it can only be assumed of some relation to the form of his birth. It is, after all, cold.

4. Terms of Release; MCU, complete at 500 words [SUGGESTIVE]

"Before you proceed," Loki says quickly, heart racing, before the Grandmaster can get a word in first, "might I remind you, you did say I could have anything I could take." Grandmaster's eyes spark with amusement, but Loki knows not to take that as any indication of how this little confrontation will go.  "Now, darling, you, uh," Grandmaster admonishes. "You know this is not what I meant." Grandmaster is in Loki's wall-mounted bed on the Statesman — entirely uninvited, mostly unexpected, and somewhat unwelcome. He lounges, as leisurely and nonchalant as Loki ever knew him to be in the near-month he spent in his bed, his throne, over his table, on his floors, up against his windows, suspended in his air, and 'competing' in his arena.

5. It's A Kick to See You; COBRA KAI, currently 8k

There's an auction at the convention. Of course there's an auction at the convention, there's always an auction at the damn convention. Doesn't matter what convention, there's an auction at it. This particular convention is taking place over a three-day working weekend in a hideously minimalist convention center slash hotel near Lake Tahoe. Everything is fucking 'greige'. They couldn't even throw in a speck of black somewhere, or even just actual gray. Between that and the overwhelming majority of salt-haired white dudes in attendance, Daniel's not-that-olive-anymore skin and inoffensively bluish suit have made him one of the most colorful things in the whole place.

6. Cater to The Hollow; COBRA KAI, currently 1k (but none of the rest is consecutive to the first sentence lmao)

"Ugh, for the love of Christ," Daniel groans into his pillow when his phone rings for the third time.

7. Curse the Messenger; ORIGINAL, draft 1.8 currently 5k

All nights are dark, and a fair few are stormy too. On those nights, the trees lining the streets shake in vengeful winds. Water comes down sideways. A loyal guard cat could get soaked all the way down to his thick undercoat. He would have to swim through the intersections.

8 ½. Run Him Like a Blade; KARATE KID 3, complete at 7k

The video goes up on a popular free site on an otherwise ordinary Saturday evening. The site ranks highly but not too highly in usage statistics in the U.S. Not one of the giants like PornHub or OnlyFans, but one a probable majority of U.S. citizens who regularly use video porn would recognize by name. The site allows anyone to upload. This is the only thing user naja88 ever does with the privilege.

9. Even Better When We; COBRA KAI, currently 2k

In hindsight, Amanda thinks, she should have put this together sooner. Then again, maybe she had. She's been making those teasing little jokes about his sexuality for… oh, years and years — decades, by now. But maybe part of her knew they weren't quite as ludicrous as her silly tone of voice, waggling eyebrows, and Daniel's rolled eyes made them out to be. That would explain why it's so easy to get now, why the tension in Daniel's shoulders changes when he notices Amanda is there and she thinks Oh.

10. Gold On a Sandy Beach; THE KARATE KID, currently 5k

The first thing Daniel notices that he doesn't hate is the way the sky goes on forever.  The plains through the midwest are too boring, and when they stop there the people talk and move so slowly it feels like they're dragging the rotation of the earth and the very passage of time backwards. That part in Superman makes sense now — it's not a superpower or anything, Clark Kent can just do that 'cause he's from Kansas. Daniel finds himself with the shortest fuse he's had since his Anger stage after the crash, but smothered under too thick a layer of malaise to actually get set off. Much as he'd still prefer to turn around, 180, and go back, it's a relief when they move on.
