Female Cosplay Breastplate Tutorial - Kinpatsu Cosplay
The other day someone responded to an ask of mine saying I need to share more of my progress making stuff bc they love to see it; I always feel like I post a lot of progress but sometimes I either get too into working to stop & take pics/vids or just assume it's a boring time in construction & don't bother. I'll try to share a bit more often!
This was a lot of the process of building my DragonLady costume! The horns were made of expanding foam & craft foam to keep them super light, the wings were latex. The tail was a combo of latex & foam, spandex bodysuit, & I repurposed my Draenei hooves & turned them into feetsies! Forgive the poor lighting, this was in an older home I rented before moving, the lighting was just AWFUL.
I decided to make an entire cosplay for a con I’m guesting at and I had a month to do it. I just finished two days before leaving 😅
I made a staff for Morrigan from Dragon Age: Origins way back in 2021. I even bought fabrics and a wig but never made anything. While this isn’t 100% finished, I have a wearable cosplay three years later. I have been in belt making hell this past week as I made 31 fabric belts, 7 foam + fabric belts, and hammered in almost 200 eyelets. I also overcomplicated what should have been a simple paint job and did battle with my nemesis: jersey knit.
Some grimy, gritty old metal for a swamp witch. The texture is mostly dabbed-on primer.

I leave for Momocon in 2 days and I’m not done with this cosplay (pt. 1- gauntlets)
Time is running out but I finished making all the fabrication stuff. Now I just have to get it onto the cosplay.
Gauntlet base is laser cut foam glued onto 1mm foam and wrapped in black Worbla
I sculpted a spine and casted it in foam clay. Played aorund with moisture manipulation to get this nifty texture on the foam clay. I glued them into the gauntlets with a bit of hot glue so that they could dry in a curved shape.
Filled the edges with foam clay to give me a flat surface for the trim. This was also laser cut. I glued the whole thing down with contact cement and weeded out the unwanted parts. Also used Worbla’s Pearly Art scraps to make a twisted rope like trim
I primed the base gauntlets and the spines separately using sand able filler primer. I glued down the spines with contact cement.
I used mod Podge to add some cinnamon for grit and a ‘definitely has nice stuff but lives near the ocean and the salt water corroded everything’ texture.
Paint is a combination of a lovely satin black base, automotive metallic black spray paint, bronze acrylic highlights, and a high gloss varnish.

Caspian, The Knight of Breath, The Helmsmen. My most recent Knight of Skaia build. Thought that knight of breath really fit with pirate theme and I love this character. The hat is very silly.
