i’m free for the semester!
I had my last exam of this semester today and now I’m free! After my exam and my final evaluation for clinical, I had lunch with some Alex and Erik, spent some time walking around downtown, and then read a book. It was a beautiful sunny day today, just in time for the end of the semester! I don’t have three out of four exam grades back, but I feel pretty comfortable that I passed. Wwwhhheeee!

i have all my final grades back
I am pretty happy with them. Again, patho is my lowest grade but honestly I’m just happy that I passed. Here is a post about all of my grade, plus a little recap of the semester, how I felt about the classes, and how I feel about my grade.
Surgical and Illness Nursing:
Final exam mark: 80%
Final mark percentage: 79%
Final letter grade: B+
I feel like I could have gotten a better grade in this course, but it is what it is. Honestly, this class was heavy and had so much material to cover so I’m glad it’s over.
Intermediate Nursing Skills:
Final exam mark: 85%
Final mark percentage: 87%
Final letter grade: A
I am happy with my grade in this class. I feel like I learned a lot in this class, I feel comfortable in my knowledge, and I really liked my instructor. I am really excited for the fall when I get to expand my scope even more!
Nursing Clinical Placement:
Final grade: pass
This course is pass fail, so no mark or letter grade here. After my past exam on Monday I had my final evaluation meeting with my instructor, and she only had positive things to say. She said that by the end of the semester I seemed comfortable on the unit and confident in my skills, which I agree with. I feel very confident and prepared to go into practicum this year.
Pathophysiology Part 2:
Final exam mark: 72%
Final mark percentage: 68%
Final letter grade: C+
I feel pretty meh about this grade. I wish I had done better in this class, but it was really bad and I did my best, so it is what it is. I really liked this class and I thought it was super interesting, but I’m also really glad that this course is over haha.
Healthcare Ethics:
Final exam mark: 70%
Final mark percentage: 82%
Final letter grade: A-
I’m fine with my mark in this class. I kind of thought that my mark on the final exam was going to be higher, but I don’t really care. This class was interesting, I like ethics and thinking about those kinds of problems and theories and stuff, but the class was a little boring. Good content to have, probably could have been delivered in a more fun way.
Overall, I think it was a pretty good semester. This semester was very intense and busy and a ton of work. It is known in my program that this semester is the most challenging academically, and now it’s over! Time to get ready for practicum.
One of the funniest things that happened to me in clinical this semester was this pen. I got this pen for free at a United Church of Canada this past summer, and the other side of it says “mission and service” lmao. It writes in blue ink and it has one of those things that works on touch screens on the end.
I think this story needs a little bit of background; my clinical instructor this semester was an interesting lady. I had had her as an instructor for one of my lecture-type classes in semester two, and of my of my friends had her for skills lab in that same semester. She’s a nice lady, really lovely, but she can be a little much at times. She’s soft spoken, conscientious, and a good nurse, but she can be very nervous. She was often nervous about letting us do skills independently on the unit. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but some of us felt like she took it a little far at times.
Now, back to the pen. Every week for clinical, we had to do research on a patient we had chosen, and on our second day in clinical we would review this research with our instructor. A few weeks in a row I had this pen with me on the unit. She used it one time and she loved it. She thought it was the best pen ever. She asked me about where I got it, and she mentioned it several other times when she saw me using it that it was a great pen (it is a pretty good pen, but I don’t think it’s quite as great as she said it was). When I was doing my final evaluation interview with her, we both had to sign this sheet to provide a record that we had done the interview. I used some other random pen from my bag and she commented on it, asking where the “good pen” was; we laughed about it.
From now on, I’ll think of her whenever I use that pen, and I’ll think of this funny story.

Evaluation of Final Major Project
For this project I am pleased with the outcome as I was able to make a magazine that was 53 pages double sided and not including the front and back cover and the inserts. I learnt a variety of new techniques and experimented with different ways to manipulate photos to get beautiful outcomes that show how stereotypes are portrayed within the media especially stereotyped within women. overall I created over 100 photos and I also created 10 pieces that were quotes formatted in different ways. although I didn't use all of them in my magazine I still uploaded them to the blog and in my virtual gallery on art steps.
In this project I started off wanting to create advert but I then though that i could make posters and format them into a magazine to show my chosen topic off better. in this project I used some secondary sources but mainly primary sources from photoshoots I taken over easter, and within the last 5 weeks using different face gestures, makeup ideas, poses and lights to create content to for my magazine using different elements and imagery that is all different to each other.
As I said it my rationale that I wanted to break my topic into section I thought about the type of stereotypes we see in the media and from my research I decided to show stereotypes using technology like TV and phones as many of the content we see and look at is on our TV from films and programmes and on our phones for music video, social media apps and models on shopping apps.
By looking at these stereotypes can affect people opinion on what they should look like as women are sexualised and objectified in the media to wear makeup and look beautiful and stereotypes them to be ugly if they have acne or a stomach or even a different body type but in fact that we are all unique and it a part of life to be different and many things we see in the media is generally airbrushed and photoshop to manipulate our perception.
Because of this I decided to make an arrange of ideas that each show a different interpretation of how stereotypes can be perceived though the use of showing how images can be airbrushed showing to negative impacts to help gain a positive outcome. I created pieces using puzzle pieces, a gradient, cracking on the face, stroke path, pop art drawings, collages, photography and editing skills, blending images, using the warp tool and song lyrics.
Although I love this process and creating ideas I felt that towards the end I was having art block and running out of things to come up with which meant that I had to stop and create a Photoshoot to continue further and add images to some of the pages. I also then edited it a couple of times and changed the layout before I finally printed it and even though I printed it I still edited it and look about 8 pages out and reprinted some in a different format.
After that I trimmed everything down and made sure it all fit and that I was pleased and proud and happy with the result of my work so i can send it off to be binded. trimming it down was a long process this is because I had 53 pages and could trim about 3-4 pages each time which meant that I had to be patient and not rush it as I wanted that pages to be the same size and not feel wonky or uneven
