was hoping for a better experience since I've had good instructors and mentors so far, but damn peds nurses at this hospital are... not great.
walk in and say good morning and everyone pointedly avoids eye contact. tell us they don't have time to teach but spend 15 min chatting about their vacation at the nurses station or constantly dip in and out of the break room or dick around on their phones. instructors tell us to they "don't expect to teach" even though it's a teaching hospital. get shit on for trying to step in. get shit on for staying out of the way.
at least I've been doing an awesome job at bonding with patients and caregivers, get along very well with maintenance and custodial staff, but can't seem to get very far with the people I'm supposed to learn from.
someone show me the EBP literature that says this makes good nurses.
the best effect this is having on me (so far, hopefully this may improve) is showing me the exact type of nurse I never want to be
