#everbyte criticism

We ignore briefly that it is all AI art, but there is another problem in my eyes.

The not real presence of variations of characters.

Each of us has an exact picture of their MC, some have several MC's. Some people's MC may look just like themselve, others are self-created and different looking characters.

First of all, we have the problem that we cannot freely choose which avatar we want to buy. It happens by chance and that makes absolutely no sense. How do I set up my own profile if I don’t have a character I like? But here's the next thing.

The lack of choice for people who are not white? If they could choose at all. There are missing BIPoC avatars, there are missing avatars with different bodies.

I'm glad they finally gave people the option for lgbtq but sadly there's another problem.

I understand you can't think of everything. (But is including all people really a thing you have to remember, sadly, still, it is).. But the MC is such an important part of the game. Especially a profile your comfortable with. It will change your experience a lot.

But I mean, even if we could choose which character we want and get it when we pay, then all those who are not Victoria's secret skinny and white would have a problem either way.

And not to forget the completely normal looking people and not the societies favorite faces...

This is not supposed to be an insinuation, no. I just want to mention that unfortunately not enough attention was paid to all kinds of people.

They were so focused on making it even better that maybe they just didn’t see some things anymore and didn’t understand that it doesn’t really do all that better than Duskwood.

They have been so focused on increasing that they unfortunately went in the wrong direction without realizing it.

As I mentioned before: The more you look at your own work, the more blind you become.

I remember it so well. Everbyte said it’s going to be much better than Duskwood. They said they learned so much and learned from mistakes and they’re getting much better now.

And we all just thought, "EVEN BETTER? Better than Duskwood? How does that work? What do they want to do better?? I don't believe that's even possible."

That was the exact reaction of the fandom, no one understood how to increase Duskwood, and I think that’s the problem. Because even if Duskwood had maybe one or two small mistakes, Duskwood was already at the top of the games.

Why else is there no more successful game in the genre?

I don’t know what they were thinking when they released Moonvale. Unfortunately, I really don’t understand it.. Compared to Duskwood, Moonvale simply has no chance in my eyes, which is so sad and hurts.

I simply believe that they wanted too much without realizing that they already had almost everything.

And I really hope that they will understand and see this.

We know what Everbyte can do, we’ve seen it for years with Duskwood, and I really hope they get back to their origins.

Rant 1:

The money milking makes me sick and don't even get me started on the ai 🫡 I spent 17 bucks today, halfway through the first episode and already out of all the materials I bought. It's disgusting how Everbyte has completely flipped and is practically scamming their players. Based on the prices, it's almost 3 dollars to view one picture 🙄 I would be more than happy to buy a premium package like duskwood for $20 or even 30 but $17 for not even half an episode is a crime 😭😭

Rant 2:

It's crazy how long this game took and yet it's way worse than duskwood. I was expecting a few additions, not subtractions.

Rant 3:

There is no way to see previous media and calls like in duskwood and no chat history like they promised. I never would've thought it was possible, but these mini games are way worse than duskwoods. And I realized how childish it all looks, I hate how we get no explanation for anything we're doing in the game.

Conclusion:

I'm pissed but seeing the anonymous mask gave me life. I need to go replay duskwood to cleanse myself of moonvale 😮‍💨

I really should also start to write down my first thoughts while playing but I fear I will write down something to every little sentence I read. xD

But it's so true, where's Nymos? Give us Nymos back! My emotional bond with this unreal little dude is huge so I seriously need him. It's literally a program but it's a he you can't change my mind because I imagine Nymos as Jake best friend who's exactly like Jarvis from Marvel. (Sorry if you don't know it but then I really recommend you to watch the Iron Man movies. (Actually all marvel movies but we're talking about Jarvis here so you best see or more like hear him in Iron Man)

Btw my headcanon is that Nymos is not just any program but also an AI. So and now I will expand the headcanon and say Nymos is an AI that is against AI art and nobody can stop me, hehe.

Open for 12 ×20 gems because until you get a profile picture you like, or a background or a frame, you have to try a lot.

What do you mean you don't have enough gems anymore? Well yes, then you either pay for more or you can't unlock the media or secret chats, sooooorry.

As I said before, I absolutely do not support mods etc. No hate to anyone, please don't get me wrong. But still, I can absolutely understand why people see it that way. The line of thoughts.

The pay to win system is simply sad. I paid for nothing. I also said before, I don’t care about the amount of money. I would have paid it always. But afterwards seeing that I got nothing for it? That's what makes me so sad.

I wasn't very attentive and I was stressed and so excited for this game that I didn't really realise that this won't give me a premium option but only gems. And of course, at the beginning no one knew what we really need it for. So of course I got some profile pictures and stuff. Yes, even though all pictures are AI generated. But I mean, it was new and I wanted to see everything. And then there is also the fact that we can not even choose which image we want but that it is randomly selected. Which then also leads to the fact that you urgently need new gems otherwise you have bad luck.

I hope it as well. The characters need profiles. We need to see the calls and pictures etc. I wish I could look into Everbyte’s heads to understand what they were thinking, just because I wanted to understand. Or at least try.

This helps to make constructive criticism more visible and to highlight it.

I have hope in Everbyte still, like you, but only a sliver. Hope that they get the picture eventually and fix everything. But I feel like for some people the damage is already done.

I'm a tumblr fanartist (not in the duskwood community though) so I hate AI as terribly as the next person, but man, I wish for everything to become okay.

Well, I can definitely understand why you're not feeling so bad anymore. And I'm sorry you had to see the AI thing. I'm not an artist. I can't even draw. Of course, I still know how crappy ai art is. That's not a secret anymore. It was never a secret. And I can't imagine how it felt for all artists here to see AI art in the game. I myself am not affected in this sense, and therefore I am infinitely sorry for you.

But it's really good seeing people still having hope. I think it's also another important thing. Also to tell Everbyte, maybe. Only criticism could maybe even lead them to not want to change anything, even if that would be ridiculous, but yes, they're just human like us.

I really believe they can improve and I also think they understood how serious we are about it. And I won't give up until I see the next episode. Even through I can understand when people say this was too much for them and they won't play Moonvale any longer. I just hope those people can still enjoy Duskwood as before. Because Duskwood is still the same amazing game as before. And it would be very sad when it destroyed even that.

I get how you feel about the code thing now etc, but even if it's not that much, I can still recommend you to play it with code. If you want. But the little things we already got were very interesting by now and for me, definitely worth to play until the end.

I hope your disappointment won't effect you too long, I hope that for everyone, because we don't deserve it. And we should more concentrate on the good things in life.

I understand the anger about AI art, the emptiness of the characters, and ESPECIALLY the pay to win concept. Just because it has a good ending doesn't make up to the negative parts. But people should have first finished the episode and only then give their opinion. It wasn't fair. Yes, we are all disappointed. I also get the conspiracy theory about Everbyte having an investor or someone else taking over the design and completely messing it up. It's still no excuse to shit on the work of Everbyte like that.

People played the episode for about 15 minutes and immediately hated on Everbyte and I was one of them and am a little ashamed. It was a smart move of Everbyte to mix the main game with the side story, but I also get the people who are upset by it. We waited 2 years for answers and now we have to pay diamonds and money to get the full experience. I fully get it, yes. The criticism is completely fine but hate to the point that they insult the developes? No, just no. I can't wait to find out about the end of the episode. Well, I absolutely get what you mean and I also understand why you think so.

But I have to say, I don’t think finishing the episode before wasn't necessary to see the problems and to point it out.

Many people had problems right after starting the game. It started with bugs. Of course we all had to look around before we started playing. And I guess many people immediately went to check the profile customisation options etc. Then we were greeted with AI art only. We directly saw the pictures aren't even free and most of us, or all thought we're allowed to put our own pictures as profile picture etc. Which was another disappointment right away.

Then we had to realise that we cannot pick a specific picture and buy it but only randomly.

Just a bunch of disappointments from the beginning and it didn’t get better. I mean, I saw so many people who said they gave up to play because of bugs and the mini games and stuff.

So actually, I think it's very understandable that some started to show their disappointment right away.

Of course, I only talk about critism. Not hate. There's a difference. And I said a lot of times by now that hate is absolutely disgusting.

Luckily, on Tumblr I almost saw no one really hating on Everbyte. I don’t know how hate looks to you and when it was already hate in your eyes. I think we don’t know exactly what we others meant and saw. So it's hart to give my opinion on that.

It's simply hard to say much when I don't know what exactly you saw or said or mean. Hating can look differently and I think even harsher words don’t have to be hate right away, it always depends on the context.

However, I find it very strong of you to admit that you were involved. And your words show that you have empathy with Everbyte and reflected your behavior. This is a good thing to be proud of.

I think we all might have made a mistake or two in the situation, Everbyte, but also the community. But hey, I just have to say: These games that Everbyte has created are visibly attached to our hearts and thus evoke stronger emotions. Which actually only shows how much we like the games and especially want to play them.

It’s just problematic that there were so many people at once, but that’s not our fault. We can’t just be quiet just because others have already mentioned it, it just doesn’t work that way. And unfortunately, in this situation Everbyte received criticism with the side effect that many more people follow them. So it is clear that the outcry is much bigger and louder.

Everbyte deserved the criticism. And the normal critism was much more silent than the hate. Because unfortunately it is always the case that the hate is much more noticeable than the normal critics. Hate is much louder and that’s why we remember it longer.

The whole situation was just overwhelming and we were all just full of emotions. This can get stronger and stronger, and sometimes it can make us say things we regret later.

Pure hate is a completely different story. Especially when the hate was deliberately pronounced just like that because people don’t care that we still talk about real human beings.

But I think we can all forgive ourselves for saying something in a very tense and emotional situation that might have been a bit brisk. It happened and we can't change it. The situation was too much for many of us, and it’s part of being a human being to do or say sometimes rash things without think a lot beforehand.

So I think we should not be mad at ourselves for it. (Unless you spread real hate and pure hate by insulting Everbyte personally or anything)
