Lucky running into this squad at Momocon!
20 years ago the first two books of the young Jack Sparrow series were published. I know all the sources say June 1st, but I swore I had seen May “20-something” as the date before. I thought I was going crazy until I found older posts of mine as well as other sources finally saying May 22nd.
I didn’t discover the books until that Fall, only bc of the Scholastic book order catalog and book fair. Already obsessed with POTC, I remember my mind being blown first seeing The Coming Storm in the catalog and I knew I needed to have it!
At the time there were just 4 books out so I slowly got the rest of those books after as I read the series and I was there for the release of every single book since. It was so exciting waiting for each new book as they came out!
I don’t want to make this post too long, plus I talk a lot more about my experiences with the books and the fandom in the upcoming episode of Podcasts of the Caribbean (ya’ll should watch/listen when it comes out!😍) But these books are so special to me as the films are, maybe it’s bc I have a different perspective growing up with them as a kid than first reading them as an adult like most have.
I absolutely love these characters so much and I have so much appreciation for the whole crew behind Rob Kidd. I really wish Disney would expand on these characters and stories in the POTC Universe!
