So I think duskwood takes place in a universe that allows everbyte to take the best and most exciting and fitting attributes from any country you want and bring them all together.

If I am properly informed, the FBI also works a lot with other authorities from other countries and I think the FBI also has locations in other countries. By now, at least. And since the FBI is simply one of the most well-known Police-state-controlled-governmental authority, I think that Everbyte has chosen this because thus most of us know what is meant.

Also, I think, as we know, Jake got involved in something that had to do with the government. So it could be that Jake has fled to another country. Or just the fact that the FBI works with other authorities from other countries. Or what Jake did is so secret that the FBI alone should take care of it or something.

So I think maybe you could say that Duskwood is set in an extra and fictional America, like many series and movies etc. Maybe it’s just a parallel universe with a few differences to make it fit for the game.

I think here is the influence of America, the film industry etc. just very big which is why I think Duskwood is a thrown together universe that has a bit of everything.

And before I repeat myself once more: this is of course only what I think and we have no real facts on the subject. But I think we don’t need that either. For me, duskwood is a different universe and I don’t care about anything else as long as Jake is in the universe. 😂

So first of all, for me, the most important statement to you, Anon:

"Even Alan says 'Someone like him…' " of course I have an urgent need to defend Jake here, I was really angry when Alan said this. Alan’s a cop, and Jake’s someone who violated the law, so it’s clear that Alan doesn’t think well about Jake. That’s why I don’t care what Alan said there, he belongs to the state system, so he acts and thinks that way. At least at first.

Well, the game is from Germany and so is Everbyte, but I doubt that Duskwood plays in Germany as well. I think it’s just a universe of its own that has nothing to do with a real country.

Well, Jake, the whole game is a lot of clichés, and Jake is kind of the absolute cliché of a hacker. At least he is very similar to the clichés we know from hacker-based films and series etc. And I assume that the Snowden vibes fit very well because Snowden is often used to symbolize a hacker. But I think Jake is just a mixture of many things.

So whether he worked for the government or not, I can’t tell you. I can imagine it, but I don’t know if it really is.

Although I can imagine it, but somehow I find his character in general does not fit to someone who has thought "Working for a state authority is what I want." I rather think that Jake is activist-wise and has acted for that reason. To uncover corruption or the like, things the normal humanity can’t see, which would be more appropriate for Jake in my opinion. So yes, maybe he worked with an association, with a group, with a collective, that’s all quite possible and I think that this is more appropriate.

Jake says, "I couldn’t trust a single person anymore."

To me, of course, this sounds like he was worried that everyone could betray him, but also like someone has already betrayed him.

He says he lost everything in one night.

So I can imagine that Jake didn’t work alone and was betrayed by someone, which is why he even got into the situation that he had to flee and had to leave everyone behind.

Okay, like I said, Jake’s tied to a lot of clichés.

First of all I can say there is the German movie "Who Am I - kein System ist Sicher" (no System is safe)

The main character is called Benjamin and really gives a lot of Jake vibes, or Jake gives the vibes of Benjamin. Since it’s a German movie, and Duskwood a German game, I can imagine that Jake might be a little bit inspired by the character. (Well, that’s both German doesn’t have to be the reason, but it would generally just fit) Of course, I don’t know if it’s true, but I can imagine it. Benjamin is also the absolute cliché. Actually, the whole film is, it's about a group of hackers who hack the German Federal Intelligence Service.

Now we might again suspect that Jake is inspired by it, and could say that maybe Jake actually hacked the German FIS. And now we could think again that it is just not mentioned, but Duskwood is perhaps still very similar to Germany. So, maybe it’s secretly playing, while Everbyte is planning everything, in Germany, so that it’s inspired by this country, but it’s just not a real country in the actual game. (Can you understand what I mean?) Of course, Jake may have hacked another state agency, CIA, NSA, whatever.

And as I said, since everything is pretty cliché, it can also be that Jake is inspired by other characters as well, or only by other characters. For example, from the series Mr Robot.

Anyway, Benjamin from Who Am I gives me pretty strong Jake vibes. Actually, I’m not a fan of German films, but if you just want this cliché, then the film is really not bad. I have to say, although it is a lot about hacking, it is not really going into the depth. So, as I said, it’s only superficial and the focus is definitely on the confused stories behind the characters (but I personally inspired the Jake in my head a little bit from Benjamin)

But yes, let’s stick to the clichés, because that’s why I’m pretty sure that Jake’s mother is really dead. I’m pretty sure she’s not alive anymore.

Because that also fits exactly into the cliché, a sad story. A young guy who does not know what to do with his life, then is interested in computers and suddenly that becomes all that interests him and the next moment he hacks the government or one of its authorities and is seconds later wanted by them. If you love clichés, I’m guilty of it myself xD, perfect, and that’s why it fits that his mother is no longer alive.

And Jake himself says that Hannah and Lilly are the only family members he still has.

I think his mother was sick, and when she died, he learned about it from a doctor or someone else who didn’t really know him. And that’s why he tells us that it’s easier for some people to hear bad news from someone you trust.

And I think that this incident is also the reason that he took the risk of hacking someone who will absolutely not be enthusiastic about it. I think Jake was pretty lonely before that, too, but had a few people with whom he got along well. Maybe he got to know them after his mother died.

And I think because he didn’t really have anyone in his life, he took the risk of doing this big hack because he had nothing to lose. And I think Jake would rather sacrifice himself to help others, so he was involved in the hack.

Personally, I don’t think Jake did it alone. You don’t hack an authority or the government itself without help, at least not really quickly.

So I think there were people who were there, working with him, and maybe one of them betrayed him.

I can imagine that the death of his mother was even the reason why he came up with the idea to contact Hannah in the first place.

Maybe Jake found out somehow by himself that Mr Donfort is his father, and then wanted to get in touch with his sisters after the death of his mother.

Personally, I am really unsure whether Mr Donfort has cheated on his wife, the mother of Hannah and Lilly. I imagine Jake’s mother may have lied to him. If his mother never told his father that Jake existed, then Jake’s father can’t help it at all. I don’t know, I just don’t want to imagine Mr Donfort cheated on his wife and ignores the existence of Jake. I don’t think he knows anything about Jake, so if he knew about him, maybe he would have picked him up right away or something. But these are only my thoughts, whether it is actually so I do not know of course.

And I’m absolutely sure that Jake was anything but at the wrong time in the wrong place. I think Jake knew exactly what he was doing, but then something went wrong and suddenly he lost everything.

I think Jake was alone and lonely and had no one, so it was worth taking the risk that his plan could go wrong. Even if he didn’t expect it to really happen.

So, I think that Jake either alone or with a group together hacked a state agency or something like that. I think that Jake was betrayed by someone and that’s why Jake was considered a wanted criminal and lost his life because he couldn’t be him anymore and had to hide.

I think, as he himself says, he has no family members except Hannah and Lilly. This reinforces the suspicion that his mother is no longer alive, of course.

I think Jake wanted to expose some scandal and corruption etc. I think that Jake grew up pretty lonely and maybe he was always alone with his mother.

Maybe he had a few friends. I think after the death of his mother, he didn’t care about the risk, which is why he took it.

Depending on how old Jake was when his mother died, maybe that’s why he started programming/hacking. Because he needed something he could do or he wanted to feel useful, just because he needed a hobby.

And I think maybe that’s how he found out that Mr Donfort is his father. Maybe his mother told him himself.

And after his mother died, he decided to find his sisters and contact Hannah.

No, I didn’t know the song before but I just listened to it a bit and I can agree with you. It would really go very well with Jake and MC, the melody is so calm and the lyrics are beautiful. *-*

I must admit, the message at the end about the end and everything is good etc also worries me. And the fact that Hannah seems to have been so scared. I mean, it’s obvious something happened that wasn’t good. And the probability that it has to do with Jake is also very high. :'(

Still, I understand what you mean. Although I was absolutely shocked at the end and everything was really a lot at once, but the end with Jake, the last message made me so happy that I could somehow cope better with the rest.

Even if I have to say that the message from Everbyte at the end is actually a really 0815 statement. I mean, people say that all the time, you see it everywhere as quote etc. Now, of course, the question is whether everything is good after episode 10, actually not, but somehow it is, r-right?😅 Maybe we just interpret too much into that, and it should be just a few uplifting words. xD Or maybe it really has a reason, which I believe more, but we should not exclude anything.
