I have to regrettably inform some of you that Beta 1.8 - the original and any unaddressing mods of it - have occasional rendering issues that have epilepsy-trigger-adjacent stuff like Z-Fighting and flashing horizons. Possibly just epilepsy triggers fullstop. It's most obvious when you're in the ocean, either swimming or in a boat. My friend said he could see it too. It's like a long thin blue rectangle on the horizon that the game couldn't decide if it wanted it to be there or not there, so it flashes on and off. It doesn't do this when you're on land walking.
This is a bug that I tested and found in the original Beta 1.8, so it's Mojang's fault. I didn't change anything in the code to make horizons do that. But sadly I have a responsibility to fix it at some point, even if a lot of people don't realize it's there. The issue is that rendering code in Minecraft is pretty advanced-skill work, and I have no idea how long fixing this by my own intelligence could take. My rendering additions up to this point have been pretty novice and uninformed.
I especially don't know how long it could take to fix this OTHER rendering bug I found, made possible by me adding second-person view. This one flashed too.
If you have epilepsy, I'm very sympathetic about what you have, even though I never had it. And if you want to play NBODE Alpha 1.0.0, get a friend to swim in the ocean and look at the horizon first so they can safely tell you an assessment about how bad it may be. I have sensory issues of my own.
Obviously there's no way I'm going to backport the mod to Beta 1.7 and readd all the stuff I've done and readd the features from Beta 1.8 to Beta 1.7. It's pretty obvious to everybody that Beta 1.8 is mostly a good base for good reasons now. I have to study code and figure out what lines to edit and write.
If you don't have epilepsy, the mod will be fine for you when it comes out early next year.
