Did you know that Babka means “grandmother” in Polish — although I read recently that some people consider it rude! Who knew! So let’s stick to the cake, which is similar to Easter bread, except babka originated with Jewish grandmas who first made it with leftover challah dough. And, btw, they never used chocolate— that’s a new world thing. Anyway, call it what you will, it is scrumptious! Add some chopped candied fruit and icing and you’ve got an Easter bread. (Recipe in the profile and on my blog. It includes chocolate!) And it is pretty, don’t you think? So I am entering this photo in the latest #historyeatsillustrated challenge that features a lovely painting of an Easter table, complete with an Easter bread (by Ukrainian artist Viktor Zaretzky). Because I can’t paint but I can cook ….. Happy Passover and Happy Easter everyone. #babka #easterbread #historyeats #easter https://www.instagram.com/p/CcV-vZ_LR4r/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
