#dumbledore bashing

So I’m starting a Wolfstar raises Harry fic. Although it’s also a rewrite so I’m changing quite a bit! It’s called A Familiar Friend and was heavily inspired by a piece of fanart I saw of a lil Harry holding a large snake plushie with Remus and Sirius on either side of him, I believe the artist is satzzzart but I don’t know.

“Do you understand what I’m saying, Mr. Lupin?” Dumbledore peered at Remus over his half-moon spectacles. 

“I’m afraid I don’t, sir,” Remus replied passive-aggressively. “Why are we leaving my boyfriend with the Death Eaters? I thought that he’s one of the best Aurors we have.”

“He is, but he’s also a liability. It would be best if we just left-”

“A liability,” Remus stated, staring Dumbledore down as best as he could. “Really?”

“Yes, my dear boy-”

“I am not your boy,” Remus seethed. If he didn’t know any better, he’d think that he was being possessed by the spirit of the wolf, telling him to protect his family.

“Well then, Mr. Lupin, tell me what you suggest instead. It is either we leave Sirius with them or we risk losing Mr. Potter and Mr. Pettigrew due to their lack of focus on the field.”

Remus almost scoffed at his audacity to insinuate Sirius was the one distracting them. “You know what, Dumbledore? I do have a suggestion. How about you go onto the fucking battlefield yourself instead of sitting here in your office and ordering us around?”

“Do not speak to me that way-”

“Then we’re getting Sirius, whether you like it or not. I don’t care if I’m not authorized- it doesn’t matter. I love him, Professor. Isn’t that what you always tell us to do? Believe in the power of love?”

Dumbledore sighed in defeat. “Fine. Get Mr. Black out. You have my permission.”

“I don’t need your permission, but thank you anyways. And by the way, if either of us send in our resignation letters after I get him back, you’re going to accept that.”

“It’s for the greater good, Mr. Lupin-”

The main one writing the actual words on the page is Solstice (@packcoventhing), a dissociative system with Autism, OCD, GAD, SAD, and ADHD. He also has chronic patellofemoral syndrome (loose kneecaps), undiagnosed hypermobility, and other physical issues. Usually in authors' notes, if it’s not noted who wrote it, it comes from him or both authors. He loves character interactions, development, and personality showcases. He’s 19 years old and uses it/he pronouns. The co-author that does a lot of the nitty gritty in finding sources for us both to read, making the map, helping plot the actual books, etc etc. is Lief (@sfhppjmc). They have undiagnosed everything (/silly), except for a few physical issues, they’re autistic, OCD, GAD, dyspraxic, and have vision disorders, a movement disorder, and history of lung and asthma issues. They like evolutions of relationships, culture, influences of anything around them, and adding in representation of all kinds. They’re 18 and use they/it pronouns. Dumbledore knew Sirius was Harry’s godfather, and even IF he believed Sirius was guilty at first, he never questioned why Sirius (who supposedly betrayed his best friends) didn’t even get a trial. For a man who preached justice and compassion, it’s a glaring failure on his part.

Then you look at how easily he left Harry with the Dursleys (knowing what kind of people they were!) and it paints a really uncomfortable picture. He didn’t intervene when Sirius was unjustly imprisoned, and he didn’t intervene when Harry was being emotionally abused. Dumbledore saw both of them as pawns in the long game rather than people who deserved protection and love.
