Well then we wouldn’t have had a plot would we nonnie? No but really, I think there are probably a couple of reasons for this? Firstly they were conducting all these skeevy experiments on the down-low, Dante didn’t want them to do that, the kids were supposed to be adopted into Mt Weather, encouraged to breed with the locals and pass on their superior radiation-tough genes to the next generation (which is kind of creepy in itself when you put it like that) 

Then there’s the fact of Clarke’s paranoia (for good reason) and escape, her return to the Ark where she basically told everyone the Mountain Men had kidnapped the Arker’s kids and were planning on draining their blood or something the way they’d been doing with the Grounders. The whole season was then spent battling with Mt Weather and trying to get them back which doesn’t really lend itself to a nice little picnic in which they cheerfully ask if they can borrow some bone marrow. 

The Mountain Men had also been using and abusing the Grounders for decades by the time  the Ark landed and the Arkers and Grounders then formed an albeit shaky alliance with one another, this again doesn’t really make it look to the Mountain Men that the Arkers are going to co-operate when they’ve allied themselves with the people that are sworn enemies of Mt Weather. 

I also think that it’s just so ingrained in their culture by that point? Like everyone in that Mountain is surviving because of blood that they’ve forcibly taken from the Grounders, I don’t think that it would have been such a great step up to forcibly taking bone marrow from the 47 if it would have ensured their permanent survival and ability to to be free out in the open the way they’ve never been able to.
