Just to let y'all know that THAT Buccellati (or Bucciarati, depending on transliteration) you see on pic 1 gets his name by THESE buccellati - pics 2 & 3.
Straight out of my Sicily, buccellato (singular “buccellato”, plural “buccellati”… I guess Araki must have thought a surname ending with I sounded italian enough) is a cake, usually in shape of little squares or of a donut, made of baked dough filled with figs jam and almonds, then freely sugarcoated. Hyper simple… hyper caloric… hyper good!
It’s kind of a Christmas cake here, but bakeries and cake shops use to regularly produce them every day, so when you wish to eat one you can easily find them everywhere.
For the record, notice that there’s another kind of buccellato, made in Lucca, Tuscany, but it’s a completely different thing from this Sicilian version.
I’m always glad to see there’s this sicilian nod in Jojo, especially on one of the most relevant characters of the whole Vento Aureo saga. Thanks Araki sensei!
