Death of Gian Gastone de' Medici: The End of the Medici Dynasty in Tuscany
On July 9, 1737, Gian Gastone de' Medici, the last Grand Duke of Tuscany from the legendary Medici family, died at the age of 66. His death marked the end of the Medici dynasty, a ruling house that had shaped the politics, culture, and artistic achievements of Florence and Tuscany for nearly 300 years. The Medici family had been among the greatest patrons of the Renaissance, supporting masters such as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Botticelli.
Although Gian Gastone's reign was quieter than those of his famous ancestors, he introduced reforms that eased taxes and reduced some government restrictions. With no heir to succeed him, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany passed to the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, bringing one of Europe's most influential dynasties to a close and ending a remarkable chapter in Italian history.
Felt very tuscan mother today.

Testing
Who remembers Google splats? Type any two words into Google and if there is only one link that comes up, that’s a Google splat. It’s probably not possible now. My username was my Google splat. The Mensano Vendemmia was the annual wine making and selling festival in my grandmother’s former village. It was a lot of fun, very liver-endangering and sadly no longer exists. This post is a test. Both to see if I have actually figured out how to post and also to see if I am identifiable as my job prefers me not to be on social media. This is an unreasonable expectation so (semi) anonymity it is.
Always remember to honor your ancestors 🏺
