I donβt think the queer community can even complain properly about bad representation of gay/lesbians in Booktok because the heterossexual representation is equally awful

Our final Frame is the Corpsman, over 40 years old and still rugged and reliable. The Corpsman might be lacking in combat efficiency, but it makes up for it with its support systems.

his name is what
So I kept thinking that Cass' inability to speak and difficulty with language looked like severe dyslexia and I looked up her character profile and apparently it is "a form of dyslexia" but
But they gave her an explanation for her dyslexia, like they said the parts of her brain that would have been devoted to language got devoted to body language instead and I would just like to know who thought that was a good idea
Why did you add an explanation
My dyslexia just means that I struggle with languages, it doesn't make me stronger in anything else and I was born with it
Sure if I devoted my entire life to learning body language I would probably be really good at it but that would change my capability to learn spoken and written languages???
And yeah there are children who essentially grew up raised by animals due to severe neglect and they do struggle with languages but they don't develop dyslexia, they are having to learn languages from scratch whilst unlearning the social cues and communication skills they have learnt because they don't transfer to our social world and it is hard for them, as you would expect, the basis for their entire world view is based on neglect by humans
But you don't develop dyslexia, it's just an immutable fact about you, it's a fundamental feature of how your brain processes information
Giving people different information to process doesn't change that, their brain is still processing it in a non-dyslexic or dyslexic way, you can have other issues like having never learnt a language before so having to get your brain even used to the idea of processing information to do with language but you are still either dyslexic or not, dyslexia would just make it ten times harder to learn
Like I was taught coping mechanisms and strategies which make reading significantly easier but that doesn't change the fact that I am dyslexic, it just means I have found and been taught how to read in ways that cater to my dyslexic mind
They could have had Cass not be dyslexic but struggle because she never learnt spoken and written language, or they could have had her be dyslexic and it be made worse by the long delay in learning languages
But in giving an explanation which straight up doesn't make sense for dyslexics and has implications they didn't mean, they gave us a case of bad rep and I am just disappointed
Why did they add the explanation, why did they need to
You can't develop dyslexia through how you are raised, and the implication that you can is harmful, it makes it possible to blame people for dyslexia, an issue that could have been avoided Vs the reality which is that it is just a different way of processing information neither good nor bad but made a disability by society's treatments of dyslexics and reliance on language
The plan to deal with Life and The Genders by lowkey cosplaying every day is proceeding ahead of schedule...I said I was going to try pretending to be Kira about it, but never specified which Kira.
