adventure of hours of photo editing and color changing by a tech illiterate person
Base photo used. From JSHK fan wiki.
Photo is grainy already but I really like the black and red hair.
I got to Hana Amane! The black jacket over the red skirt is actually really cute though I had to cut it out of frame later.
After a mash of free mobile online photo editors. The most notable for the flowers is https://www.purrybooth.com/ Feel free to recommend me specific sites and tools.
Intersex pride!
Trans flowers! Love the extreme reds mixed with the Picture Perfect cyan blues bleeding in.

Oh. “The memories should’ve been shown!” No. They’re Yoshida’s and Denji’s memories. Not Chainsaw Man’s in OR out of universe. They’re not the devil’s. They’re not the manga’s. They’re not OUR memories. Why would we get access to them? Why do we deserve to see them?
(Was originally going to post this on Twitter but their character limit is horrid so here we are)
Before anyone comes for me, disclaimer: I HAVE READ BOOKS BY ALL THE AUTHORS I MENTION IN THIS POST. I'm not going to rant about something I don't get to have an opinion on. I get to have an opinion on this though, ok heart !!
New Age romance (Dark Romance, Romatasy, Authors like Colleen Hoover, H.D Carlton, Emily Henry, Rebecca Yarros, Sarah J. Maas, Hannah Grace, ect.) is turning literature itself, as well as the online literature-based community (booktok, booktube, bookstagram), into unreadable, unrecognisable, unintelligent slop. Word salad, even. Nothing burger, even.
A lot of the most popular books that have been circulating in specific parts of these communities are actually nothing. They are sooo basic, so unpolished, so euro-centric (not that I can talk, as I have very little exposure to countries outside of Europe and North America other than like the year I spent learning Portuguese and hanging out in online spaces where it was widely spoken IM WORKING ON IT OK), so... nothing.
Most of these books have very little going for them. The romance is the ONLY THING in the book. I have to LIKE the characters to care about their romance, and a lot of the time in these new romances I just don't? They have no goals, no ambitions, and even when they do I can't feel it. I can't believe that they really want these things. In Icebreaker, for example, I couldn't believe that Anastasia or Nathan or anyone in that book really wanted any of the things that Grace said they wanted. These characters are just so one-dimensional, and a lot of the time you can tell that the author doesn't read and hasn't realllly practiced their work enough to write a book that actually means anything. I think a lot of these people do have promise, they're just not there yet.
But then at the end of the day it doesn't matter. There are so many people online nowadays that only read dialogue or skip big paragraphs or read purely for the smut (can't say I don't like a bit of smut every now and again but AGAIN: I need to like the characters). They don't value connection or substance, they don't want a concurrent story, and they are loud about it. So then we get these echo chambers, and there's no improvement, and we just keep killing trees for actual nothingness.
I miss books that MEANT SOMETHING. I want more Donna Tartts and R.F. Kaungs. I want good fantasy. Cassandra Clare is, for example, good at balancing her romance and her fantasy. I like her characters and I like her worldbuilding, its good! Sure she had that weird incest subplot in the Mortal Instruments series but thats uhm we'll cover that another day. The School for Good and Evil series by Soman Chainani, even, is a good example of complex characters with (albeit boring, but not I'm-Not-Going-To-Finish-This-Book boring) decent romances. Maybe its a bit of a younger read, but whatever. And if you want an example of a book focused almost solely on romance: read Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller! Its everything internet girlies want in a book (smut) but written really well! I think we should make it a mandatory read for anyone wanting to publish romance. Because THAT is a good example of complex characters with aims and goals and wants and needs, and maybe they get a bit freaky but SO WHAT. And Miller didn't even MAKE THEM. Achilles and Patroclus have been around FOREVER. If she can make a retelling fantastic, you can make your basic ideal-body-type blonde woman/muscular man romance at least tolerable.
And don't even get me STARTED on how harmful some of these "viral" books are. Haunting Adeline is probably the most popular example. We have slipped so far into anti-literature territory that we've started romanticising stalking and SA. The only reason I ever finished it was because of pure disbelief. I was almost expecting it to get better because I just NEEDED it to get better. And then it just. Didn't!! I wouldn't recommend that book to anyone at all, no matter what. The entire thing is a completely flat, plotless, unappealing, stereotypical mess of a “book” and I truly do believe that if dark romance, especially in the same vein as Haunting Adeline, continues to surge, we will be well set up for a rise in violent crimes against women because the more we talk about it and rave about it the more normalised it becomes and the more people think that stalking and rape are ok (they aren’t. AT ALL).
Anyway yeah that’s my opinion uhm feel free to get mad at me I don’t really uh care?? Thank you for reading it, if you did, and expect more bs like this soon!!
Going back and reading old fanfiction that I used to read when I was younger has really showed me how spoiled I’ve become due to Ao3, and truly how much of a picky reader I am now. Like I use to read some of the most terribly formatted, and badly written fan-fiction ever and I used to think it was gods work. Now though? The formatting could be even slightly off, or the tags not be as specific as I want and I’m not interested. It’s ironic too cause I’m not even that good of a writer. Younger me really fought in the trenches just so current me could afford to be this picky lol 💀

I had a dream based on ch.10 of Magia Record, it was super cool but here are some highlights.
- Wally was attacking in broad daylight instead of the night
- the suzune girls plus hikaru had created musical instruments and a band out of various parts of the city, and were playing it to motivate everyone else.
- there wasn’t as much destruction before Wally appeared, but when she hit land the shockwaves could instantly be felt, like a terrible earthquake. She also had a grief seed-like pin coming out of the top of her head that impacted the earth
- there was a bit where everyone thought Wally had been defeated, and were leaving, only to have her appear in the (perfectly intact) city, where for some reason the buildings were too tightly packed to see her. The terrible, echoing laugh ran out as you wondered where she was, where she would strike next, knowing you can’t outrun her or avoid the blasts, that all you could do was hide. At the end, my ears were popping and I was starting to freak out- I could hear her charging up an attack, some sort of massive beam. I knew it would level at least four blocks, cutting a massive dent through the map. I knew I couldn’t get out in time. It was terrifying.
- for some reason, I was certain That Touka had unleashed at least 4 big beam attacks like that last chapter, but never on this scale
- the band girls plus some kind of villain-mentor-kind meguca (toukas cousin maybe?) watched Wally make landfall from a nearby building.
- at one point sana was running only to have a nearby building shatter, and for the glass to superheat, melt, form together and cool all in the space of seconds. She was unharmed, barely.
- I also knew that after Wally’s big beam attack everyone caught in it would be captured by the magius, so I guess like with Iroha in chapter nine but it’s everybody.
Ajdhfksldsf that’s all I got I just woke up sorry if it makes no sense or is accidentally offensive I didn’t want to lose this before waking up completely
