They’re very silly

like I love asgore very much as a character because he has very interesting flaws, and it is because of these flaws that make me want to throttle him for saying this.

first, where credit is due, congratulations to asgore for finally figuring out he should not have been treating toriel like that.

but secondly, on god asgore if flowery's actions towards you made you realise this you would NOT survive the bullshit you've been putting toriel up with

for the 4 chapters leading up to this we've been subjected to asgore's cringe fail flop attempts to woo toriel back and he is consistently met with visible discomfort and displeasure

(not to mention the fact that he violates the number 1 rule of handling your children in a divorce which is to NOT make them the middle man)

meanwhile asgore assumes that flowery knows that he's playing along, he assumes flowery knows its not reciprocated, and then he calls it unasked for affection

my brother in angel you were "playing along" and did not tell him straight up, he is not going to catch the hint, he is a flower, today is his first day of consciousness and social interaction

flowery's reaction while a little funny because he's asking about the mixtape is also genuine because he now has to reevaluate what asgore actually feels because he genuinely wants to make asgore happy, his whole entire dream hinges on it

and then asgore says he's learned that the pushy actions he's been giving his ex wife was wrong because he felt a fraction of how it felt to be on the receiving end

This is what I mean when I talk about Takaba's cursed technique - I haven't completely caught up with the anime yet, but I believe it's mentioned that this technique rivals Gojo, which means this guy is stupidly, absurdly strong??!!!

When I think of Flowery's fake statistics, I think it comes from a similar vein here. Instead of his power deriving from comedy, maybe it's just a matter of - for lack of a better term - determination. Determination for a dream. A flower's dream!

And people argue that Flowery spent all of his strength in the fight against the $#!+ Squad, and his exhaustion lead to his demise... Something about that doesn't really sit right with me. It's a perfectly fine explanation! But it also kind of feels like an obvious excuse. A red herring, in a way?

I just wonder if this interaction got to him a little bit.

It's not an Earth-shattering interaction, certainly heartbreaking, but Asgore does assure him of his value in the end. Taking care of the flowers gives Asgore a means to move forward in the real world, and Flowery accepts that. I won't argue against that.

But, it's still a humbling experience for Flowery. After everything he'd done in the chapter, his way of giving back to Asgore only made the former realize how pesky and suffocating he's been to Toriel. In other words, Flowery was unable to repay Asgore in the way he wanted to. He literally shaped his identity around the love he has for his caretaker, and that identity - his entire state of being in the dark world - was rejected. Ow.

Again, Flowery accepts that.

But it's humbling. It's a blow to his ego.

If Flowery wants to make Asgore happy, he has to change the way his dream looks. So perhaps, in a moment of weakness, a moment where his dream is changing, his determination is wavering, adapting, he...

He loses.

All this to say I think Flowery's fake stats are directly tied to his determination and dreams, and the Knight knew exactly when to strike because Flowery's powers wavered after that chat with Asgore.
