Youโd probably know itโs owner Jas more than the restaurant itself, as it seems he is a local celebrity, and certified 100% legend. Poor Boys serves up iconic New Orleans sandwiches, mirroring a tradition from back in the 1920s, and this is absolute comfort food at its best. If it isnโt Jasโ charm that wins you over, then itโs his loaded sandwiches with choices of brisket, shrimp, pork belly, chicken, and more. But Iโm not here to talk about that today. Poor Boys have recently launched a brunch menu. Firstly, choose a muffin or bagel, topped with egg and cheese, or waffle or pancakes, topped with maple butter, then add your toppings, smoked bacon, grilled mushrooms, sausage patty, hash brown, and more. Then itโs all finished off with your choice of sauce. It doesnโt stop there, his Benedict boo brunch fries are to die for. Skin on fries with hollondaise sauce and bacon, I would never have put hollondaise sauce on fries before, but thatโs changed now. Honestly I loved it here, and it will be my go-to place when Iโm in Kingston. Poor Boys are currently open for eat in (no reservations, and be prepared to wait), or take away/delivery. Another week, another burger box! ๐๐๐ This week I ordered from @burgerandbeyond, and this was the first time Iโve had one of their burgers in a loooong time. For ยฃ25 you get 4x the Bacon Butter Burger. Signature 35 day aged blend. Pancetta bacon. American cheese. Burnt butter mayo. Pickled onions. ๐ Jeez I LOVE this burger. Those pickled onions add such a nice sharpness to the burger that cuts through the mayo and also balances the saltiness of the bacon. Iโm not sure how long theyโve been using a new meat supplier for, but the quality is absolutely still there. I visited back then, probably around 2015, and I thought it was okay. I remember the patties being quite small in comparison to the bun, and not necessarily memorable in quality and taste. The restaurant did end up closing maybe a year or so later, but now theyโre back in South Kensington. I hate to say it but I donโt think much has changed, to be honest. The bun still outweighs the patty massively, and the meat just gets lost. The beef itself was pretty well done, which was a shame as there was some testing going on from what looked like the owners or management on the table next to us, and their patties were perfectly medium rare. The actual taste of the burger was good, due to the cheese. This burger was Le Raclette, by the way. Raclette cheese, bacon, caramelised onions, chives, and homemade bbq sauce. I just wanted more from the beef, with a burger patty or smaller bun. As I remembered last time about the size issue I did ask if I could double up, but they donโt have it as an option. One of the newer additions to the menu (but probably 18 months old now), and for me itโs all about the onion jam. Especially when itโs mixed with the smokiness of the bacon and the heat of the jalapeรฑos. A tasty and crunchy broccoli salad topped with cheddar cheese, bacon that has been crispy, and a vinaigrette dressing.
Ingredients: 4 cups broccoli florets. 8 slices cooked bacon, crumbled. 1/2 cup red onion, finely chopped. 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded. 1/4 cup sunflower seeds. 1/2 cup mayonnaise. 2 tablespoons white vinegar. 2 tablespoons sugar. Salt and pepper to taste.
Instructions: In a large bowl, combine the broccoli florets, crumbled bacon, red onion, cheddar cheese, and sunflower seeds. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, white vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper until well combined. Pour the dressing over the broccoli mixture and toss until everything is evenly coated with the dressing. Cover and refrigerate the salad for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld. Serve chilled and enjoy!

This ultimate grilled cheese sandwich combines the creamy goodness of cheddar cheese with the savory crunch of bacon, all sandwiched between slices of buttery toasted bread. It's comfort food at its finest!
Ingredients: 8 slices of bread. 8 slices of cheddar cheese. 4 slices of cooked bacon. 2 tablespoons of butter.
Instructions: Set a pan or griddle over medium heat. Each piece of bread should have butter on one side. Put 4 bread slices on the griddle or skillet with the butter side down. Put a piece of cheddar cheese and a piece of bacon on top of each slice. Put the last few slices of bread on top, butter side up. The bottom should be golden brown and the cheese should start to melt. Then flip it over and cook until the other side is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted. Take it off the heat and let it cool down a bit before you serve.
