You start with your bread, then you load it with a choice of filling; shrimp, buttermilk fried chicken, pork belly, brisket, mushroom, cauliflower. OR combine them and go for something crazy. Then add a sauce; bourbon bbq, Louisiana hot, voodoo reaper, honey mustard, Cajun mayo, blue cheese mayo, ranch. Poor Boys is definitely the place to go if you’re in Kingston. It’s comfort food at its best. Even if you’re not in Kingston you should make the time to go. You’d probably know it’s owner Jas more than the restaurant itself, as it seems he is a local celebrity, and certified 100% legend. Poor Boys serves up iconic New Orleans sandwiches, mirroring a tradition from back in the 1920s, and this is absolute comfort food at its best. If it isn’t Jas’ charm that wins you over, then it’s his loaded sandwiches with choices of brisket, shrimp, pork belly, chicken, and more. But I’m not here to talk about that today. Poor Boys have recently launched a brunch menu. Firstly, choose a muffin or bagel, topped with egg and cheese, or waffle or pancakes, topped with maple butter, then add your toppings, smoked bacon, grilled mushrooms, sausage patty, hash brown, and more. Then it’s all finished off with your choice of sauce. It doesn’t stop there, his Benedict boo brunch fries are to die for. Skin on fries with hollondaise sauce and bacon, I would never have put hollondaise sauce on fries before, but that’s changed now. Honestly I loved it here, and it will be my go-to place when I’m in Kingston. Poor Boys are currently open for eat in (no reservations, and be prepared to wait), or take away/delivery.
