Sometimes, recognizing that a villain is actually sympathetic is a step in recognizing the existence of systemic abuse, injustice, or failure.
Do people often morally polarize villains they've recognized as victims of systemic issues? Yes. Is this a problem? Yes.
Does this mean that we should tell them they're wrong for recognizing the villains as sympathetic? No. It means we should do more to help them understand how systemic issues incentivize harmful behaviors, and how putting people in "good" and "bad" boxes actually distracts us from solving systemic problems.
Holding your hand. Sometimes a story doesn't have a "real" villain because the story isn't about placing blame on individuals. Sometimes the story is examining the conditions that lead people to make harmful choices. You don't have to force great man theory onto every story.
