Keith has a disease similar to Hanahaki, but thankfully it isn't a death sentence.

It can still kill him, though, and thus navigating with this disease is a big challenge.

Will he survive, or will the cold consume him?

So I have headcanons about this mysterious height difference that a good portion of the Klance (and other) part(s) of the fandom have gone crazy about.

Lance has always been a really tall kid.

Super Lanky

Keith, however, is one of those kids who got a growth spurt in like,,, 11th grade and went from 5'1 to 5'6 or smthn.

The Garrison is a college-age program, so Keith has already had his growth spurt by the time he's in there but while Lance is tall, he hasn't exactly... filled out.

Lance swims in his free time, so of course he has a little muscle, just not a lot since swimming is more of a lean sport.

Keith is buff as fuck though, he fenced from 9th to 12th grade and took karate when he was 5 to when he was 8. Kids joked that he was Shiro with a smaller build.

When they both end up in the same class (since cargo and fighter pilots do have to take one or two similar courses) the teachers freak out with the height sort thing.

Usually they automatically go for Lance being taller because he's lean and everything, but then they look at Keith and go "wait"

In the end they will usually pick Lance as the taller one, but it isn't exactly accurate.

Keith never had parents (foster or otherwise) that told him to stand up straight so he has a pretty bad slouch.

When teachers tell him to stand up straight he just glares at them.

So... everyone thinks he's a couple inches shorter than Lance.

Nope.

That's his slouch talking.

In reality, when both of them stand at their full height, they're on equal ground.

You could lay one of those bubble rulers across their heads and it'd be right in the middle.

Lance, even after Pidge performed the bubble test, still refuses to believe he's the same height as Keith.

As much as Keith is irritated, he just let's Lance go on his tangent about how much taller he is than Keith but...

Whenever Lance brings up how he's taller than Keith, Keith will stand up to his full height and glare at him straight in the eyes because THEY'RE THE SAME HEIGHT.

Lance will hide things from Keith on the top of cabinets and while they are the same height...

Lance is still lanky.

Lance is like, 90% limbs while Keith is more 50/50.

Lance uses this to his advantage and thus when something requires order by height, Keith will grudgingly stand right behind him because Lance can reach up higher than him.

The team is happy when Keith decides in terms of height he'll be behind Lance because they all knew Lance would've never allowed it.

They all still call him a bottom for it, though.

Keith doesn't know what that means but when Pidge explains it he just shrugs and goes "that's fair".

When Keith and Lance get together later they all joke about Keith being the bottom and they let them but in reality...

They switch.

They will never let the team know this because they know that it'll turn out like the height argument.

That's all I guess.

Shiro: Come on Keith, for me? Please?

Keith: no.

Shiro: *stares*

Keith, resigning: Fine, you asshole of a sibling.

Shiro, clapping: Yay!

<[15 minutes later]>

Keith: SHIRO YOU STABBED ME!

Shiro: I said I'm sorry!

Keith: SORRY DOESN'T FIX MY EYE, SHIRO.

Shiro: Well, I'm still sorry anyways.

Keith, wincing as he sighs: Just... bring me to the sink, I'm sure I can get the eyeliner out.

"L-Lance?" Keith weakly called out before coughing up some blood.

Lance winced before nodding to tell Keith he heard him.

"Can you just," Keith coughed, "talk?"

Lance stared at him for a moment in shock before quickly nodding and starting to tell a story about how his niece had decided to try to make her own ice cream out of whipped cream and ice.

5 times Keith asks or listens to Lance talk and 1 time Lance finds out why.

Keith: Oh, hey Lance.

Lance: Hey.

Keith: I've been wondering, what's up with the marks? Did you.. like... turn Altean?

Lance, pointing to his marks: What, these?

Keith: Yeah.

Lance, wiping at his cheeks: I'm just an honorary Altean.

Keith: What?

Lance, removing hand to see that the mark is smudged: Yeah, they're fake.

Keith, whispering: what the fuck

So, Keith is super oblivious.

Lance is not.

But, Lance has never been in a male x male relationship so... He doesn't want to make the first move in case he does something deathly wrong.

Plus, Lance knows Keith at least likes men (and according to how he reacted to girls, Lance assumes he's gay but wouldn't put his money on it), so it still is possible that Keith has been in a relationship, right?

Keith doesn't know what the fuck is happening.

All of a sudden Lance makes him so happy, and he can't stop smiling when he's around him, and it's gotten so bad to the point where he avoids him EVERYWHERE.

Lance: Hey Keith, what're ya up to?

Keith: Nothing

Keith: *Naruto runs out of the kitchen with food goo dropping on the way*

Lance: He's been spending too much time with Pidge.

Lance is fairly confused after that interaction, because Keith just seems way more pissed around him now and maybe he was wrong?

But also, Keith lived in a shack in a desert for a year, so how can Lance trust his social skills?

Lance-social-star-McClain can't figure out Keith and he's SO irritated by it because he even figured out the little gremlin had more backstory then they said back at the garrison. And honestly, they need a couple of lessons in social etiquette too.

So one day he confronts Keith, because he's honestly so Done™ with this shit.

Lance: Hey Keith?

Keith: *very distracted and not realizing Lance is talking to him* hm?

Lance: Do I make you uncomfortable? Or am I not tolerable? Because I meant those arguments in all good fun, y'know, like friendly teasing and stuff... And, well, you... you've been avoiding me.

Keith: *staring him in the eyes, face slack with shock*

Keith: I'm gay

Lance: WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING?!

Yes, Keith had a gay panic and honestly who could blame him because Lance was just so sweet and vulnerable to him and wanted to make sure he wasn't bothering him and Keith is just so whipped.

Lance looks really hurt after Keith has no sign of saying anything else, so he starts to retreat, slumped and radiating a depressing aura.

And a sad Lance is a sad Keith, so Keith needs to stop this now.

Keith thinks maybe he's homophobic or something because he's oblivious as hell, so he tries to make sure they're okay.

Keith: If you're homophobic or something that's okay, I'm sorry I said that all of a sudden and I don't want you to make you uncomfortable-

It's then that Lance turns around.

He's gripping his left arm in a slumped position and his head is hung low.

But once Lance looks up Keith's heart is shattered into a thousand pieces.

Lance's face is tear-stricken and his eyes already have red rims. He has this sad smile on his face, and his eyes shine even more blue than normal. Keith shouldn't be appreciating the fact that he made Lance cry but oh my God he's gorgeous when he cries and honestly who can be gorgeous while crying? But Lance's eyes. The water from the tears swims around in his eyes, and what normally would be a shallow beach in Cuba is now the deep end of a New York port on a stormy day. It makes him gorgeous, but it makes Keith's heart ache.

Lance: First of all, I'm not homophobic.

Lance: Second of all, I... I'm just upset because you've been avoiding me and... you seem to be really mad at me... Honestly if I did something wrong, please let me know and... Even though I don't know what I did, I'm sorry.

Meanwhile Keith is having a huge internal panic because oh God Lance thinks he hates him but he doesn't know what to do so he says the first that comes to mind and...

Keith: I like you.

He's taken aback by his own statement because is that what it is? Is this what liking someone is like, is that why his heart feels so full near him?

Lance stares at him with wide eyes because what? Oblivious Keith™ knows what liking someone feels like and ADMITTED to it?

Lance: Are...are you being serious?

Keith: *looks Lance in the eyes*

Keith: Deadly.

Lances eyes are like the ocean, and he's the sand, because he keeps getting drawn back in over and over no matter how hard he tries to get it to stop...

But honestly? Keith doesn't care.

Because as long as he's with Lance, he's safe.

Lance is the 'suave one' around the ladies (because we all know he isn't around the men [ahem Keith ahem]), and everyone assumes that he can dance because like, if you flirt that much with women you have to ask at least one to dance, right?

So, they're at a party after saving the planet and this rather upbeat song comes on, and even Keith is nodding his head, but Lance is dead still and glaring at the speakers like they insulted his mother.

And everyone is just like ??? isn't music awesome??? Is Lance a clone now???

Eventually, Keith snaps because tbh that boy can't stand Lance being all grumpy.

He grabs his wrist and stomps onto the dancefloor with Lance in tow, and when he turns around to look at him from the middle of the dancefloor he sees pure terror in his eyes.

Keith: Lance, why are you so scared? Are you feeling alright?

Lance: I can't dance

And now? Keith is even more confused because how can Lance not dance with those long legs?

He refuses to believe this.

Keith: There is no way you can't dance.

Lance: No, I really can't dance.

Keith: No, I don't believe this. I am not letting you leave this dancefloor until you dance.

Everyone is taken aback by Keith but Pidge knows about his crush on Lance so she/they let it slide.

Lance looks down and is terrified of embarrassing himself in front of the team and an entire planet (and although he won't admit it, Keith is the person he doesn't want to embarrass himself in front of the most), so he just stays still like a stick.

And then he makes the mistake of looking up.

Keith looks like a kid who is right outside of a candy store that is locked and Lance cannot take that so he starts swaying a little to the beat.

And oh my God, he can not dance if his life depended on it.

Even when he's swaying, he's super off-tempo and keeps tripping over himself or bumping into others and honestly everyone is frozen in shock because WOW.

He can NOT dance.

Keith, before Lance can embarrass himself more, takes both of Lances' hands and makes his swaying in time. He makes sure that his footing is always secure, and keeps him in this little bubble so he won't bump into anyone and wow.

Lance can't dance, but Keith sure can.

He's very graceful, and his movements are as fluid as water. Even when Lance messes up, he covers him and makes it look intentional.

Once Lance refuses to dance anymore, he asks Keith to because "you made me dance, time to return the favor".

Once he starts, Lance's jaw drops, and honestly he's not surprised.

His hands move like the wind, his feet are placed perfectly one after the other and holy shit can he moves those hips.

Lance is super happy that he asked Keith to dance.

When they return to the group, no one questions Lance (which he is super thankful for), but everyone questions Keith because how?

His only answer is simply "it's just like sword fighting without the sword".

(later pidge connects her/their music device and when 'welcome to the black parade' comes on no one can stop keith from dancing)

This is based on a post I can't find where they have a GIF of Lance dancing (after he gets into the fighter pilot class) and is explaining that he's absolute shit at dancing and why do we think he can dance.
