He had seemed to accept the brush off, apart from joking that she would marry him to have Mr Foyle as father-in-law. He isn't exactly wrong, to stay in Hastings, keep with Mr Foyle - they've had good years,working together. Mr Foyle, who knows her as her,also as something useful.
