Akshay Kumar has been on a streak of box office underperformers, and his latest film Bhooth Bangla has been expected to be the superstar’s comeback to delivering successes due to his reunion with director Priyadarshan. In the past, the two have delivered countless comedy classics in the form of Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, De Dana Dan, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, etc. While there were huge expectations from the movie, the Bhooth Bangla horror-comedy film review defines the film as an average experience and not deserving of so many expectations.

The Pre-Release Hype of Bhooth Bangla

Before Bhooth Bangla and its promotional assets were revealed, the film carried a good hype. This hype for the movie was dented by the film’s teaser and, further, by the trailer, as revealed in the Bhooth Bangla trailer review critics across India and the audience. Additionally, its songs, composed by Pritam, did not gain any considerable appreciation either.

The few factors that sustained the hype for this horror-comedy included the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan. Another factor was the presence of signature cast members from Priyadarshan’s old cult classics, such as Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, the late Asrani, and Manoj Joshi, in the Bhooth Bangla cast.

How is the Bhooth Bangla Box Office Collection?

Bhooth Bangla performed well during advance booking, selling 40,000 tickets for its paid previews and 40,000 for Day 1 across Indian national chains (PVR INOX and Cinepolis), bringing its opening-day ticket sales to 80,000. Additionally, it had sold over 2,50,000 solely at PVR INOX screens across India.

The opening-day collection (Paid Previews and Day 1 combined) of Bhooth Bangla was strong. In the paid previews that started from 9 PM onwards on April 16, this Akshay Kumar film collected Rs 3.25 crore nett, while on Day 1, the movie collected Rs 11.50 crore nett at the Indian box office. 

This shows a good start for the Bhooth Bangla day wise collection. Whether the film can continue this momentum or not will be decided by the public's word-of-mouth for the movie.

The film began its theatrical run on a strong note, earning around ₹3.75 crore net from Thursday paid previews. On Day 1 (Friday), Bhooth Bangla minted a solid ₹12.25 crore net. However, fueled by positive word-of-mouth and high family audience turnouts, the film witnessed a phenomenal 55% jump on Day 2 (Saturday), raking in approximately ₹19 crore net. This incredible growth pushed its overall two-day India net collection to a solid ₹35 crore.

Intent on hosting his sister’s grand destination wedding, he dismisses local warnings about Vadhusur—a demonic entity notorious for abducting newlywed brides.

The review points out a sharply divided cinematic experience. On the positive side, the first half thrives on pure nostalgia and chaotic fun. Akshay Kumar’s impeccable comic timing shines, heavily supported by the veteran comedic genius of Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and the late Asrani. The visual effects and spooky atmosphere are also praised for delivering genuine thrills.

However, the film stumbles in its latter half. Clocking in at nearly three hours, it trades sharp humor for a messy, over-explained backstory that severely drags the pacing. Furthermore, talented actresses like Tabu and Wamiqa Gabbi are given surprisingly little screen time. Ultimately, Bhooth Bangla is deemed a chaotic but highly nostalgic trip down memory lane, making it a flawed but enjoyable weekend watch for die-hard fans.
