Dance Mask of Demoness Taraka from the Ramayana [workshop of Sri Kajal Datta, papier mâché, clay, fibre and silk, 1994]
Like how is THIS the closest to a dark skinned Ram we got and it's not even a Ramayana adaptation??? It's ridiculous! And don't get me wrong, when it comes to the actual Mahabharatam, I don't think even SSR will cast a dark skinned Arjun or dark skinned Draupadi. Maybe a dark skinned Krishna at best. The colourism is entrenched way too deep across our industries
Dear Indian animation studios,
PLEASE work on something other than adapting the Mahabharata or the Ramayana. It's getting too redundant, especially when Indian animation is once again on the rise now and popping off.
Imagine the amount of impactful stories we can have with the current talent and technology instead of getting the same adaptations of just these two epics.
Like cmon yall.
im sorry but the defense by ramayana's costume designers make it even more shit. "wanted to bring a modern touch for newer generation"
yahi bakchodi adipurush makers bhi karte the. we all saw how THAT ended up being.
i personally dont think any adaptation of hindu lore (At least live action) has been accurate to the text fully. but at least some are bearable than whatever they are cooking.
"we dressed up sita the way we imagined and saw them in temples". bro to kyu kaha we spent 10 years researching valmiki ramayan? also whats this chutiya logic. haa beta i imagined bharat being a biker. ab usko movie me bike chalate hue dikhau kya? you need to be accurate to the time period. we know how ancient indian clothing was like and it's not even hard to adapt it. not to mention they did adapt those clothing but for the rakshas women. great message there. i see what you are trying to do, and i don't like one bit of it.
tumne hag diya hai to aise excuses mat do. it just aggravates ppl even more.

Y'all am I the only one noticing the pattern?
The sweet pious main charecter wears clothes that cover every part of her body her colour palette is red or pastel and the make up is 'no make up make up' with pink shades.
While the villainous women who lusts at another man is wearing clothes that reveal her chest and stomach, her colour palette is dark and she wears bold make up with dark lipsticks

I want to enjoy the Ramayan trailer, I really do, but I refuse to take the modern embroidery and quarter sleeve blouse on Maa's saree seriously.
