Listening to Lorde is like fixing my inner adolescent self, because wdym you’re the only friend I need, sharing beds like little kids is a line i relate to in all my relationships (platonic/romantic) even as a 25 year old adult.
Lorde saying “you rue the day you kissed the writer in the dark” is a vibe i bring to the table out of nowhere!
I'm pregrent
and it's the college dress code that's fucked me left and right.
watched the movie mother! (2017) and although the metaphor is bible & religion i still cannot get over the fact how the wife does ALL of the work around the house, literally building it from ground up & takes care of the husband like her own child, maybe even better while the husband suffers a writers block that he cannot get over. and that is quite literally the only problem he has in his life. the wife is cooking ALL the meals, healthy and fresh, paints the house, arranged and fixes the furniture, gives him pleasure, prioritising his happiness over hers while he seems to think he absolutely deserves it. movies/literature like that helps me see the obvious distinction between gender conditioning. a woman is taught to give give give to her husband who is taught to take take take even if she doesn’t have anything left to give ofc she can squeeze out a child or two. when the wife gets pregnant she still does 99% of the housework and maybe still pleasure the husband, listen to his problems, agrees even where she doesn’t want to because she thinks she loves him that much & lets his will carry on and on until her last breath. yet of course he isn’t fulfilled at all. a great parallel to how millions of women spend their lives and live with a void wondering what’s wrong with them. should they get on meds? see a therapist? perhaps lose some weight or fix their skin? maybe a giving mother would never feel this way & then the guilt eats her. what great weapons patriarchy has placed passively over the head of the female population that they don’t even need to fire a shot to kill them. they’re already taking an axe and hacking their feet because of conditioning.

this portrait of empress nur jahan after the passing of her husband emperor jahangir does something to my heart
the walls remind me of the voices these palaces must’ve had when live beat amidst the walls. the hushed voices of mothers at night humming lullabies to their children. men whispering sweet nothings in the ears of their beloved as their giggles reverberated through the walls. lovesick women singing love ballads, awaiting one glance of their lovers. the anklets of dancers echoing in the room synchronising with the enthralled heartbeats of their audience. now only walls stand where once muslin curtains swayed in the afternoon breeze & strong sandalwood incense kept mosquitoes away. meals made in ghee found homes in the drooling mouths of the inhabitants, enjoying each morsel like their last.
