Night Raven College was never quiet.

Not during lunch when students from different dorms nearly started wars over the last week special's food. Not during classes where magic accidents happened so often Crewel barely blinked anymore. And definitely not at Ramshackle Dorm, where Ace Trappola and Deuce Spade somehow turned “visiting” into permanently lingering around.

At first, Ace would come over because he'd get punished by Riddle or something. Deuce would follow because “someone had to stop Ace from causing problems.” Grim tolerated them because they'd bring snacks. You tolerated them because, somehow, the old abandoned dorm felt less empty when they were around.

Then it became routine, Ace sprawled across Ramshackle's ( fixed ) couch like he paid rent there, grinning lazily while stealing bites of your food. Deuce fixed broken shelves without being asked and got weirdly flustered whenever you thanked him too sincerely. They bickered constantly; over card games, over who got to walk you back after class...

And somewhere between late-night study sessions, surviving overblots, and falling asleep together in the Ramshackle lounge after exhausting school events… things changed.

Ace started looking at you too long when you laughed at his dumb jokes or tricks.

Deuce became unbearably gentle with you whenever you looked tired.

And you realized you didn’t want to choose between them.

The Ramshackle lounge was lit only by the fireplace, bright blue light flickering across the room while rain hammered against the windows outside, Grim was comfortably wrapped in a little ball of furr sleeping comfortably, thanks to him, you had warmth. A storm had trapped the four of you inside after evening classes, and somehow that had led to this disaster of a situation.

“You’re leaning on them too much,” Deuce muttered.

Ace, currently half-laying across the couch with his head in your lap, cracked one eye open.

“You sound jealous.”

“I’m not jealous.”

“You literally are.”

“I just think you’re annoying.”

“Wow,” Ace said dryly. “And here I thought we had something special.”

You sighed, trying not to smile as you carded your fingers through Ace’s hair like telling him to leave the poor guy alone. That immediately backfired because Ace smirked victoriously and looked unbearably smug about it. And Deuce noticed this, oh how he hates that fuckass smirk he wears on his pretty lips....

“y/n,” he said carefully, sitting stiffly in the armchair across from you both, “you don’t have to indulge him.”

“They like indulging me,” Ace replied before you could answer.

“I was talking to them.”

“And I answered for them because I know I’m right.”

“You’re unbelievable.”

“And you’re grumpy because they let me sit here first.”

Deuce’s face immediately turned red.

“THAT IS NOT—”

“It is.”

“It’s not!”

You pressed a hand over your mouth to hide your laugh, which only made both boys look at you instantly.

Ace's snarky comments died down and Deuce softened, you looked geniuenly peaceful in their presence.

And suddenly the room felt much smaller. The rain outside grew louder as it filled in the silence.

Ace tilted his head against your lap, eyes half-lidded.

“So,” he murmured, “who do you actually like more?”

Deuce nearly choked. “ACE?!”

But he didn't say anything else, he was curious as-well...
