Sooo, I got a temporary job to get some extra money before I start uni, and what do you know? Just 2 weeks in and I have a cold that is kicking my but.

Well, it was kicking my but I'm over most of it now. Have been absolutely miserable for the last 6 days because of it.

I think this was my first time staying in a motor inn in Hayward. It’s a two-level property with onsite free parking and 23 rooms with exterior entrances. The rates start at $119/night. I found a deal on Expedia for $85/night ($74/night before taxes and fees).

Each room has a microwave, mini fridge, and coffeemaker. There’s also a nice big desk, telephone, hair dryer, flatscreen TV with cable, free wi-fi, in-room temperature control, vending machine (with sodas), bathtub, toiletries (Lacoupe soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion), and a coat rack with hangers. Daily housekeeping is provided. The woman does a decent job of cleaning, but I found a few stray hairs.

There is no elevator or free breakfast. Dunkin and 7-Eleven are very close and you can walk to downtown Hayward in 15 minutes (also where you can catch BART). Downtown Hayward has quite a few restaurants, coffee shops, and more. I could hear traffic all day (Jackson St. is a very busy street).

The building is old but has obviously been renovated. The first room that I was given had a very loud mini fridge and some scary looking stains and holes in the wall. The door hinges had rusted. The chair was a cheap folding chair. The bed was comfortable enough though.

I moved to the second floor and that room had fewer holes and stains on the wall. The fridge was quiet. However, the toilet kept running. I told the front office and they came by to try to fix it. Both rooms had the overwhelming smell of cleaning supplies (not a pleasant odor but more like disinfectant). I was able to open the window, which was nice. My clothes smelled like disinfectant though.

The parking lot is too small and hard to get in and out of. Service was friendly, but the staff are behind bulletproof glass. At night, you have to buzz the staff from outside if you need something. The area doesn’t feel too safe at night. It’s okay during the day. In the future, it makes more sense to stay in Fremont because it's much safer.
