Yesterday at the bed store was horrendously slow despite it being a holiday weekend, so I pulled out my good luck charm laptop. It’s basically a guarantee customers will come in if I commit to an activity.
The goal was to have the team play Blather Round, a jackbox game where you pick a noun and get really broad vague hints to make people guess your topic.
It mostly worked. We didn’t succeed in playing a game until 5pm at which point even the magic of my laptop couldn’t summon customers. So it was me and two coworkers playing together.
One was really struggling to give hints, all the autogenerated stuff is vague and bad on purpose so you need to progress to give better hints. There’s an art to it.
So first she prompts, “It’s an old experience.” We start guessing things like swimming, yoga, climbing.
Then she adds, “It does the thing,” which made us both scream that that’s nothing.
Followed it up with, “It involves the position,” and at this point we’re like, oh, sex. So we start guessing sex, missionary, doggy style.
“Oh, item!” And we switch gears to dildo, vibrator, strap, we are just running out the timer, there’s no way we can guess because the clues weren’t getting any clearer.
Then finally. With seconds to go she adds the hint, “Kids love it more than sex.”
And for reasons unknown to man I immediately thought “Bop It” and I typed it with one second on the timer thinking it would be a funny last guess. Except my answer popped up white on the screen to declare it the winner and all three of us started screaming, laughing, and experiencing all the stages of grief simultaneously.
They both wanted to know what made me say Bop It and I had no idea. Kids love it more than sex just seemed like it would play on a Bop It commercial. The one who’d been giving clues asked if Bop It had come up before in past plays and I told her no, I’ve never seen that one, I can’t explain how I guessed it.
Bop It now lives in infamy.
