i may be going through a bit of a crisis, but i'm also really curious: adults, if you're comfortable sharing, could you reply/put in the tags what your current profession/area of study is? no need to be specific if you don't want to!!

#so i have a software engineering degree & have held tech-y positions in the past but i'm currently on a working holiday visa in canada #so staying out of the industry until i at least have PR (and just because i have really bad imposter syndrome hahaha)#but currently i work as a server and i really love it!! i love meeting so many new people (i work by the airport so LOTS of intriguing folk #) and the food at our restaurant is SUPER good #plus i get to make my own drinks & bartending is lots of fun soo yeah!!#also tips are nice haha i wouldn't work as a server for like min wage alone bc it can still be a stress #but i just feel super comfy in this role & it's nice having a job where i can leave work AT work #like i just go in for my shift & once it's done i go home & don't have to think about it until my next shift #whereas tech is SO stressful man and usually very overworked & constant #my dad has an IT job he's worked for over 10 years and still is constantly doing work outside of his normal hours for no extra pay #i just hate the work culture in the tech industry lmao but also i'm still glad i got my degree because it's something to fall back on #i know i could earn more from a tech job but i'm happy with the income i get #when i don't have my youthful looks & energy it'll serve me well to get a tech job LMAO

in all seriousness though; I think the important thing, if this is happening to you, is to remember that most people aren't going to hate you for having life stuff and depression, and like my loving partner always says, "words don't have an expiration date", so it's ok if you aren't able to respond to something immediately. Try not to beat yourself up over not responding, cause it'll only make it harder for you to reach out to those you love, and talking to people will help your depression.

I’m so excited and happy and while I could sit there and ask why and what happened I’d much rather shower them in love and affection because they’re here now and that’s all that matters

#i just wish i could actually maintain it for a long enough amount of time after returning #i still care SO deeply about the people i was close to like.. 10 years ago #literally as if i never stopped talking to them #but my stupid brain and everything makes it hard for me to keep up communication w/people #and even when i've TRIED to keep talking to someone i always go 'no i can't reply right away or i'll seem annoying'#and then suddenly it's days later...then weeks....then months....#and everyone around me is getting older and evolving and starting families and just...totally moving on from me #and it hurts but i know i shouldn't get disheartened by it bc it's my own fault #like some people i would not talk to for literal YEARS bc ~trauma or whatever keeps me feeling annoying #then i suddenly find the courage to message them and don't get a response or get one & then nothing more until i re-message down the line #and i just beat myself up over not having that courage earlier bc of COURSE they've moved on y'know??#we haven't been close in like 5 years so why am i even trying now??? and PARTICULARLY why is it hurting me to not have this #desperation to reconnect reciprocated????#ugh...idk. i just have a fucked up sense of time and the fact it keeps passing #life feels stagnated for years even tho i've been doing stuff and ik i've grown too #but i just desperately desire everyone i've ever befriended and it's hard knowing others move on easier than i do #like i've never moved on even if i haven't messaged you in a long time...time just kept speeding by and i haven't found ~the golden excuse~#to message again lmao since i always feel like i need a reason to talk to people & have them interested in talking to me #why am i ranting here lmao who cares hahah i just needed to word vomit bc i miss my friends
