I have always thought how uncanny is it that we are so desensitised to human suffering that we only voice our annoyance about wars when it affects… Our pockets. I would like to think that deep inside a lot of people actually care about what’s going on in Ukraine, in Congo, in Palestine, in Iran, etc, besides the economical impact, it’s just that they don’t say it as much, but to keep quiet is to say a lot. And how the news treat this “foreign” matters with cold indifference, only speaking about numbers and economic consequences and rarely ever about the sheer horror of a war on terror or the resistance of a country to foreign domination, is telling, to say the least

Something nobody prepares you for is that the better you get at writing the harder it becomes. beginners write freely because they don't know enough to know what's wrong. then you learn. and suddenly you can see every single flaw in real time as you're making it and you have to write anyway while your own brain is in the corner going "that's a weak verb. that transition is lazy. you've used that word three times." getting good at this is mostly just getting better at ignoring yourself.
