Xavier's been away from home for two weeks. He teleports home to appease his son who misses him :(
Xavier was away on a work trip. Something about a high influx of wanderers and they needed their highest skilled hunter to help lower the numbers.
They underestimated the hoard. What was supposed to be a two-day trip turned into almost two weeks.
“I’m so tired…” Xavier mumbles. His blanket lays low around his waist, various hotel pillows strewn around the bed. He holds his phone to face level as he watches you adjust your phone across FaceTime.
“I heard the news. The wanderers just keep on coming, don’t they?”
“Mhm… I was on patrol for hours,” he rubs his eyes, trying to fight the sleep off because he really wants to talk to you.
Tiny footsteps emerge from the bathroom and rush quickly into your bedroom.
“Is that dad? Dad!” Your son jumps on the bed, a small hand smelling of mint slaps your face and the other small hand snatches your phone. You make a small ‘oof’ sound from being overpowered by the surprisingly strong 5 year old.
“Hey little champ. How are you?” Xavier perks up a bit to look more energetic for his mini-me.
“I miss you!” Your son cries out, already blubbering from the overwhelming wave of emotions from seeing his dad after two weeks. Even from the other side of a screen. Xavier’s eyes widen a fraction in alarm.
The five-year old continues to cry after seeing his dad’s face, wishing to climb onto him for a hug like he usually does. You try to calm him down. You manage to take your phone back but your son just unleashes more tears onto your shirt as you try to pat his back and get him to stop.
To be fair, being separated from his dad for two weeks is probably the worst thing that’s ever happened to him in his life.
“Has he cried a lot?” Xavier asks, a bit concerned from the outburst.
“Only when he remembers you aren’t home.”
“Give him the phone,” he says. You do, the smaller blond boy trying to take the phone but misses once due to his blurry vision. He sniffles, looking at his dad with a sadness that makes Xavier’s heart break.
“I have a surprise for you,” Xavier says. You see him start to sit up from his bed, and you wonder what he has in store for the sobbing child. He adds, “close your eyes.”
Your son closes his eyes, his nose and cheeks all rosy from crying.
There’s sparkles that float around your room, joining together to create a large flash in front of you. The silhouette of light materialises into the image of your husband, as if he’s standing right beside the bed.
Your son opens his eyes and they immediately light up when he sees his dad standing right there.
“Surprise,” Xavier says, a little weakly. He catches his ecstatic son in his arms and lays right onto the bed next to you, hugging him tightly against his chest.
“Xavier, you told me teleporting makes you exhausted…” You whisper, full of worry at Xavier’s already depleting state becoming worse after using his teleportation.
Xavier places a kiss to the top of your son’s head, getting him comfortable for bed.
“It’s worth it if he’s happy…” Is what Xavier manages to say before he completely passes out.
In your mind, it was reckless to exhaust himself like that. But then, seeing the way your child snuggles up to Xavier and sleeps peacefully beside him, you feel a little grateful that he gathered the strength to teleport after all.
