@dailyprongsfoot | July day 26: Bittersweet
"We're basically soulmates, aren't we?" James asked the ceiling.
"Obviously," Sirius agreed lazily. He was sprawled on his back on the carpet of James's bedroom, tossing a Galleon in the air and catching it.
"Do you think..." James hesitated, shifting on his mattress and hanging his upper body off the edge so he could look down at Sirius upside down. "Do you think if one of us had been a girl, we'd have ended up together?"
Sirius caught the coin and closed his fingers around it, letting his hand rest on his chest. He didn't hesitate. "Yeah."
"Yeah?"
"I'd definitely want to be the girl, though."
James snorted, grinning. "Why's that?"
Sirius stopped moving. He looked up, meeting James's upside-down gaze. He is so beautiful, James couldn't help but think.
"Because I wouldn't want you to be any different."
James's smile faltered. He searched Sirius's face for the grin that usually followed one of his ridiculous comments, but it never came. Instead, there was only that unwavering look in his grey eyes, so open and certain that James felt something inside him shift.
"Sirius," James managed to mumble.
Sirius pushed himself up off the floor and flopped onto the bed beside him, as if he hadn't just turned James's world upside down.
"Anyway," he said. "Move over."
And James did, making room without thinking, even as he wondered whether Sirius had any idea what he'd just done to him.
I just watched the odyssey and the entire time Tom was on the screen, i couldn’t really separate him from orphan boy Peter Parker which may be bc I’ve read one too many irondad fics but it def didn’t help that he actively lacked a proper parental figure and genuinely I felt borderline maternal towards him which is insane bc that’s a grown man but he reeks of orphan boy energy guys
You know what's wild to me? Just how... Tame the canon Zutara dynamic actually is.
The way Bryke and antis describe it, it's some toxic barrage of arguments where both parties treat each other horribly. And that's just... Not true? If anything, that's closer to canon Maiko. Or even Kataang considering that Aang's technically lashed out at Katara more than Zuko has post-redemption.
Zuko and Katara admittedly did have a rough start, but they worked out their differences and she forgave him. After that, I would argue they're actually fairly close. Katara felt comfortable teasing him multiple times. She confided in him during TSR before even forgiving him. They were close enough to the point where she was the one he trusted to take down Azula.
As far as enemies to lovers (or shipping in general) goes, they're pretty mild
You know. I kinda feel the need to push back on the common claim that Ozai “pitted Zuko and Azula against each other” because it’s way more true that his intention was to make Azula feel superior through his approval and to make Zuko feel inferior through a lack of it. The whole thing with having a megalomaniacal parental abuser like this is that one child is the scapegoat while the other is the golden child. It’s horrific because it’s inescapable for either sibling. Azula has to be perfect because otherwise she will be treated like Zuko, this is something she basically says aloud in season three. Zuko knows that even when he returns to his father’s side and is in his father’s graces he will never be enough for Ozai, he will always be walking on thin ice until the day he makes a wrong step and it’s over for him. This could be anything from the day it is revealed that Zuko never killed the avatar to once again speaking out of turn. It is very obvious that there is never any authentic competition happening between these two from day one, even as they are both clearly being abused. Ozai’s abuse thrived on the appearance of pitting these two against each other as if they ever had equal chances of winning his preference between them. It was a losing game from the start, but Azula was more useful to him as a subordinate and Zuko was more useful to him removed from the picture.

ok but what if FL Zuko adopted his wife's famous hair loopies >>
zuko and katara attempt to soft parent the gaang (and fail)
just got into the the atla fandom and it's WILD to me that zutara is a hated ship?? mind you its such non problematic, STRAIGHT ship that it being hated is so hard to fathom for me, like even in terms of it being enemies to lovers, it's very tame because they're both fundamentally good, honourable (see what I did there) people.
I feel like we talk a lot in anti-kataang circles how Aang puts Katara on a pedestal, but we don't talk enough about how Katara does the same thing to Aang, although it leads to an entirely different type of imbalance in their relationship.
She talks about how growing up, she always had hope that the avatar would return and end the war. For her, he was a symbol before he was a person. She believes he is the only way to end the war, not because of any traits he possesses, but because he is the avatar. And therefore, protecting him is her life's mission. And even though that develops into a relatively healthy friendship, it creates imbalance in the romantic sides of their relationship, which we see in canon.
She feels she has to take care of him, talking him down from his rages when he enters the avatar state and constantly standing by his side and giving him advice and providing a safe place for him, no matter what she is feeling. And to some degree, Aang takes advantage of that, as seen in the Ember Island Players when he kisses her without her consent. And while Aang feels comfortable talking to Katara about his feelings, she rarely reciprocates by confiding in him, and rarely reciprocates his romantic interest in general. She constantly supports him, but is ambiguous in her exact feelings towards him. Does she see him as a boyfriend, little brother, or simply as the savior of the world who she has a close friendship with?
Anyway, while Aang sometimes thinks of Katara as a perfect girl who can do no wrong or the beautiful object of his affections, she also sometimes thinks of him as not just a person, but a vessel for something greater. He is her last hope, and because of that, she can't upset him or risk the fate of the world by saying no to him, even if she doesn't feel the same way about him that he does about her.
The way I just wrote a meta that I think ties in so well with all this. Katara sees herself as the protector of the savior, so it’s hard for her to really let herself be vulnerable and naive around him. All the feelings that children experience with their friends, Katara suppresses around Aang because of how she sees him (and honestly, she does this with most of the group because of the nature of parentification). Meanwhile, I think the times we really see her at her most quintessential 14 year old girl is when she’s offering to heal her enemy’s scar after being vulnerable with him because she doesn’t view him as a savior and put him on a pedestal, but deeply connects with him as another child affected by the war. And I think it’s so powerful how she feels that ripped away from her when he betrays her, but then he brings it back to her when he helps her find her mother’s killer.
Happy birthday Izuku!!

And shouldn’t have to either !!! 🗣️🗣️
HAPPY BIRTHDAY IZUKUUUUU
Happy birthday to the best hero :D
Chronically online people will be like “haha holy LARP you didn’t automatically know this hyper obscure fandom detail that was mentioned only once in the franchises thirty years of extensive content!! 🤪🤪🤪”
Meanwhile most OG creators will deadass stare at you like this when you ask them for any broad elaboration on side characters that aren’t immediately relevant to the story:
sometimes i read a summary for a fic and im here thinking that it's going to be a cute and wholesome one but then i glance up at the tags and its the most sexually charged bunch
the duality of a fic lmao
whenever i read bkdk fics, its so funny to me how we've all just collectively agreed that izuku mostly speaks in exclamation marks, like every piece of dialouge really does just end with that, and ykw they're never wrong, its somehow the right tone all the time
