“50 things I wish I had realized while I was still in school”
That zit on your cheek literally does not matter
Skipping class one time will not ruin your entire life
The boy you’re trying so hard to impress will mean nothing to you in a year
Bring coffee to school and ignore people who make fun of it
Bring a snack, too. Don’t care if people hear you eating in class.
Being popular isn’t and will never be something that seriously defines who you are
Doing/not doing drugs doesn’t make you cooler than anyone else.
Talk to the kid sitting alone; even though it may not change your life it could drastically change theirs
Participate in school events
Wear whatever makes you comfortable
Nobody will laugh at you if you sit alone at your lunch table for five minutes
Don’t wait 20 minutes to text someone back just to seem cool
Tell your friends how much you love them
Cherish your free textbooks… seriously
Help confused freshmen, be nice to them. Remember how much you would have appreciated it a couple years ago
Compliment the other girls in the bathroom
That fight you had with your mom really isn’t that big of a deal
Don’t let your desire for a romantic relationship stop you from forming platonic relationships
Remember that life does go on
Your personal life is nobody elses business
This includes your sexuality, family issues, mental issues… you do not have to tell anyone what you don’t feel comfortable with
Instead of being disgusted or appalled by other races, cultures, opinions, etc. learn about them. Realize that in the end we’re all people who deserve respect
You’re allowed to make new friends, just don’t forget the old ones
Staying up a little late to watch an episode or two wont destroy your GPA
Walking in those horribly lit highschool hallways is significantly better than walking outside on a college campus… especially in the winter. Appreciate it.
Being friends with kids in the years below you isn’t lame— having friends of all ages is great
Recognize warning signs of depression/anxiety/other mental disorders. You are not crazy, you are not just a hormonal teenager.
If you take a rockin’ selfie post that shit.
Wear the outfit that is risky but makes you feel amazing.
Your self-worth and self-respect is not determined by your sexual experiences/partners. Whether it be 0 or 20, what matters is that you are comfortable and safe
Love is a lot more than holding hands in the hallway and butterflies in your tummy- don’t fall too fast
Freedom of speech does not mean freedom to be an asshole
It’s okay to experiment, dye or cut your hair, change your style of clothes, do your makeup differently. Highschool is about finding yourself
In a couple years nobody will remember that you fell down the stairs as a freshman— even if they do, who cares
Highschool in no way shape or form will prepare you for college
Getting a job will make your life a lot easier
If a guy/girl can only hold a conversation over text and not in person they are not worth pursuing
“If he/she likes you they’ll pick on you” is wrong— having a crush does not justify being a jerk
Don’t waste time hating the kids that you grew up with
Taking any non-prescribed drugs during school is dangerous and stupid, no matter what it is or what you believe it will do to benefit you
Be the kid that stands up for your teacher when kids harass them— being kind and mature can get you far, especially after you graduate
Don’t hold grudges, people change. You will change.
Highschool can either be the worst years of your life, or some of the best. It’s your choice.
