The problem with most Dracula adaptations is that the creators view him as some sort of Gothic anti-hero when what they should be viewing him as is a man who will shoehorn wolves into every scenario
If you view Dracula as the sort of person who looks at problems/complications/social interactions and thinks "Where can I throw a wolf to solve this" then I am of the opinion that you will end up with an accurate Dracula
ultimately the truth about frankenstein is that we are all grotesque amalgamations of the best and worst parts of everyone who came before us. and sometimes the people who are supposed to love us because of and in spite of this will not. and we can kill them with hammers for that. and i think that’s beautiful

“Well if we hold presidents accountable for war crimes then Clinton and Obama would be in jail”
Awesome. There’s plenty of stuff those guys need to answer for.
“Well if we expose the Epstein List, that will ALSO affec-“
There is not a single name you could put up there that would make me not want that list made public. You could tell me Mr Rogers was on that list and I would still want it out there. You could tell me my own grandmother was on the list (may she rest in peace) and I would still want the list out there.
I think if there is a name you would rather protect instead of achieving justice then you have some very serious soul searching to do because that world is dying and you are about to be left behind or eaten by it.
Very funny that the King of the Hill revival avoids the question of who Hank voted for by sending him off to an Aramco base for the past few elections, a move nearly identical to the Minions being trapped in Antarctica during WW2

My toxic trait is that I am far more interested in the socio-economic and geopolitical implications of ABO settings than the smut.
For example: I can't read any ABO AUs set in England or France because while I can suspend my disbelief far enough for a gender trinary set up, I can't suspend it enough to believe those two countries would still be distinct entities in a alternate history where Richard the Lionheart could have impregnated Philip II.
If there was a viable dynastic future with Richard, Philip would have climbed him like an oak and dragged him to the altar if he had to. It's a match that makes perfect sense from both their points of view: Philip gets Aquitaine back under French rule, the best general in Europe on his council, and a powerful check on the Angevins... then unexpectedly (after Henry the Young bites it) the entire Kingdom of England for his Capetian dynasty. Richard meanwhile gets to stick it to his father, secure Aquitaine's prosperity, and gets the leverage to start pushing for his mother's release. Then when Henry kicks the bucket Richard doesn't actually have to be King of England in anything but name: Philip can run the countries and unify the Crowns and what not while Richard runs off to go Crusading.
Plus they also like, loved each other and stuff and being able to get to be together long term instead of being torn apart by politics would have been cool. But I'm mainly obsessed with the historical and dynastic implications.
All this to say any ABO au set in England or France that doesn't have them united as a singular Anglo-Frank empire is doing it wrong.
I know the movie is 32 years old but I feel like Aunt Debbie (Addams Family Values 1993) is one of the few people whose quality of life could have really benefitted from a few therapy sessions with Dr. Hannibal Lecter
Expert Mode Couples Counselling Session
100% yesssss I love it
Also, Debbie'd set her sights on Hannibal in qn INSTANT, but she'd pretty quickly realize that Hannibal only has eyes for Will.
Hannibal would just adore her as a patient, though. He wouldn't even really need to provide care, more just like "You’re doing AMAZING, sweetie. "
I mean IMO the only real PROBLEMS she had as *part* of the Addams family was her emotional immaturity. They were FINE with her entitlement, her ambition, her homicidal intent. The trail of bodies behind her wasn’t really an issue either. At the end of the day, the biggest point of friction was her impatience and inability to self-regulate.
She could have kept trying to kill Fester for DECADES and he would have LOVED it. She just wasn’t able to reflect and adapt. Maybe if she had, she could have come up with additional get-rich murder schemes that DIDN’T require marriage. Maybe a small influencer-follower cult or beauty product pyramid scheme.
Given the right resources and support she could have THRIVED with the Addamses. Let me have this
"At the end of the day, the biggest point of friction was her impatience and inability to self-regulate."
You forgot about pastels...
Tell me YOU don’t have relatives with questionable style preferences
Pastel Goth is a thing. Tell me that feathered robe didn't fit right in with their style, albeit in a different color scheme.
The comment isn't about her clothing style, iirc. Morticia is fully on Team Debbie until she's inside the newly bought house, and she notices Debbie has decorated entirely in the current trend of subdued pastels.
This woman has proven she thrives once she stops toeing the line. Her style isn't dark, but neither is it light; it's excessive, vulgar overconsumption that can't exist in polite society. It's why and how she fits in with the Addamses.
And then, at the peak of all her achievements, when she can finally get whatever she wants—she gets what everyone else has. Restraint. Zero personality. It's not like her, and Morticia immediately notices and questions it. Maybe to mock, but more likely as a genuine expression of concern.
What's more, when Debbie feels called out on it, she stomps her feet and throws a tantrum. She sees Morticia as enough of an authority figure that she assumes she's being told once again that she didn't, can't, get the best, no matter how much she tries. She could have casually waved away the comment with "it suits my purpose... for now" or "still getting settled in", but it doesn't cross her mind that she can argue with it, or even that it might not be meant as a personal attack.
The underlying message in any Addams story is always "Why would you want what everyone else has when you can have something better?" It's why Debbie's color scheme is irrelevant. It's why she can't win in the end. It's what Dr. Lecter would fix.
@gothiccharmschool
All of this is correct, especially the interpretation that Mortica isn't expressing disdain about the color scheme itself, but expressing concern.
Remember when I talked about the phenomenon of how white ppl will automatically defend White women who are in and remain in relationships with racist White men (ex: Melania Trump) but that White ppl automatically assume those wives are being abused & are only victims in their husbands' racism and bigotry because they'd sooner believe that White women are always only victims and can't ever be perpetrators of racism rather than that that are also racist.
And then White ppl got mad at me and said i was defending and justifying abuse. Even though I specifically said these wives often get with racist men they know are racist and them being potentially abused wasn't the actual point or relevant to what i was pointing out because i was talking about how white people just assume white women are only ever victims in their husbands' bigotry.
We live in the dumbest, lamest cyberpunk dystopia possible.
So LA has been — and continues to — protest against ICE. These protests haven’t gotten any smaller or lost any momentum, but social media wasn’t reflecting it.
TikTok users, realizing that the platform/other social media are censoring/deleting/shadowbanning these protest videos, decided to find a workaround.
They’re calling it the LA Music Festival. Ice detention centers and other protest locations are “stages.” The hottest band is Rage Against the Machine. “Here’s what gear you should be bringing to stay safe at the LA Music Festival.”
And it fucking worked.
TikTok has become a proving ground for a lot of new music, meaning lots of labels and organizations have lucrative deals with TikTok to promote their new artists and music festivals. So they absolutely cannot censor the words “music festival” or train the algorithm to ignore it, or they risk endangering that very important revenue.
So now protest videos are flooding feeds again, but it’s the LA 24/7 Music Festival. Truly an incredible timeline we’ve landed in.
During the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s, radio broadcasts would refer to upcoming marches as "parties" and use other such euphemisms to sneak calls to organize past censors.
This is, frankly, a timeless strategy, just done online.

Imagine explaining to Matt, a blind man, that Wilson Fisk spent mad cash on a painting that’s basically just a white rectangle. Like, enough money to pay his rent for several years. As if he needed another reason to hate the guy
Just sayin-
