i dont moralize to people about their use of psychiatric terminology cause arguing with people about their own experiences is condescending and also crucially doesn't work, not to mention that terminology is often a useful shorthand to describe the way you have been treated and the categories you have been shoehorned into. but i do think its worth pushing back against describing any kind of psychiatric pharmacological intervention as "medicating" a diagnosis. i've never met anybody even among antipsych types that described their adderall use as "medicating their adhd" that didn't also have really shitty opinions about at least some kinds of substance use or some kinds of substance users especially if they perceive them as hedonistic lazy recreational types who are in denial and don't want to get better

like in general making care work dependent on sentimentality is a fucking bad idea lol, to some extent you can't really prevent the fact that people interacting with one another will probably feel some type of way about each other but esp when you are taking on a role where people depend on you for basic bodily care tasks, necessary medications, proper performance of potentially dangerous procedures &c it's not actually about YOU or your feelings at all & the more you make it into that type of ego trip looking for self satisfaction because youre soooooo self sacrificing and empathetic and you love your patients sooooooooo much -- the less you actually see & think about & serve those patients. never confuse personal fondness for evidence you are doing right by that person -- completely irrelevant & not at all protective against or mutually exclusive of abuse. people who are disliked or dislikable also need care! you signed up to provide it to them. if you cannot do bear to do that and do it fucking well then find a different job

the "empathy fatigue" stuff is also very revealing because when you examine health professionals' self-reporting on the matter there is a specific type of person they describe losing empathy for- unsurprisingly, it's people with particularly chronic health issues and disability, drug users, people who "refuse to take care of themselves" and especially anyone with a health condition perceived to be "their own fault". very often what they describe as "empathy fatigue" is actually just the mask slipping on the seething contempt they already held

personally i think the real bioessentialism with regards to this kind of art is how the penis is used as an indication of unchangeable maleness no matter how much evidence the character is on estrogen or how much the character is portrayed enjoying being referred to with female terms. but what do i fucking know. i havent considered the feelings of men enough i guess
