911 very pointedly — and to my surprise — had Eddie "decide" to go back to the 118 in the very first episode of 5B. They kicked off the season by making it clear — in the text, in multiple scenes, including in Eddie's own words — that Eddie misses being a firefighter and wants to go back. They also made it clear that Chris never wanted him to quit and supports him going back "home" to the 118.

Eddie has already made the decision to go back to the 118, it was just a matter of Eddie getting mental health support in order return. Plus, by all accounts, he's already back by 5x17, I think? Based on some bts? Which makes sense, after he symbolically returns by putting on the gear and going in with the 118 to rescue Bobby in the Dispatch fire.

So, they very well could have — and I expected to be honest — had 5B be about Eddie working up to and accepting that he wants to be a firefighter. That he doesn't have to choose between his 118 family and Christopher, that he gets to have both. They could have had that Chris conversation about "being brave" at the end of the season, at the climax. But they didn't. They moved through that very quickly and said this is not the inner-conflict Eddie is exploring here.

So "Eddie makes a decision about his future," after a whole season of him breaking open those boxes of long-hidden feelings, one by one. After we learned that there was a person who Eddie was — who he wanted to be — before (I will never be over this). Before he "pretended to be someone else," before he "hid inside what he knew, to protect his family." ("I understand the motivation. You sure as hell do, don't you Eddie?) Before he "paid a high price for living a fake life."

And the last time Eddie made a "decision about his future" — almost certain the line in the ep description is exactly the same — he broke up with Ana. In one of the queerest scenes in the history of 911, including all the out gay people!

And Eddie makes this big decision, in the finale of this season all about Eddie learning to "follow his heart." After returing from Texas and "attempting to reconcile" with his father.

I'd also like to bring up a slight point. And thats the glint in Mike's eyes everytime he looks at Will. And go ahead and fight me and say its lighting. But look at thee two pics in the van side by side for me.

This is one of the best scenes and I don’t see people talking about it nearly enough. Mirabel is afraid to walk with him not only because she knows at this point Abuela views her basically as a curse who could rub off negatively on Antonio and prevent his gift, but also because of her own traumatic ceremony where she was left disappointed and humiliated, as well as completely changed her relationship with Abuela for the worse due to being giftless. But she ultimately chooses to relive that horrible memory because she loves Antonio and he is the first family member to actively rely on and express that he NEEDS her, which is all Mirabel has ever wanted. More than a gift she just wanted to be equally valued and needed by her family.

And Antonio grew up knowing that Mirabel was looked down on by his Abuela for being giftless and is nervous that the same could possibly happen to him, but chooses her anyway because he loves her exactly as she is. When she found him hiding under the bed before the ceremony he said “I wish you had your own room”. NOT her own gift, but her own door and room too because she deserved one with or without magic, she’s a member of the family and as important to him as his parents and sibling and everyone else. So of course, how could Mirabel not be there for him the whole way. Even knowing how the others will all react.
