OK so a little disclaimer: I am a Gwynriel but I do see the points made by Eriels and think that could be the case. I think there is hints for both ships and both sides make good arguments I’d just prefer it if Gwyn and Azriel got together.

With that out of the way: in the podcast SJM mentioned something about Mate but nit True mates and that sometimes ‘nature makes a mistake’. This could refer to Elain and Azriel, I will admit that.

However!!!!

I think it could also refer to the possibility that Mor and Eris are mates and have kept it a secret for 500 years. In ACOFAS or ACOSF (I can’t remember which one) Eris mentioned that there was more to the story when Mor was dumped at the autumn court when she was 17 after sleeping with Cassian to get out of the arraigned marriage.

We know that Mor prefers women (I don’t now if its confirmed that she is a lesbian, but I think it’s confirmed that she is Bi but leaning more towards women) and there is the theory that Eris is gay. This could be the case of nature making a mistake pairing these two together and not being true mates.

I didn’t watch the full podcast and just saw this quote. There could be many more hints in the podcast towards any ship that I’ve just missed. But I do think it would be an interesting story if Eris and Mor are mates and never told anyone.

I think whoever is the next couple [Gwyn/Az, Elain/Az, Lucien/Az, Mor/Emerie] that there stories are all interconnected. I don’t think it could be accomplished by giving one book to one couple and it has to have a more Throne of Glass approach.

If it was Az\Gwyn:

Az needs to have a talk with both Mor and Elain

Gwyn will need to come to terms her past trauma

Emerie will be around because Az is training the Valkyrie’s and she is Gwynn best friend

There is a theory that Gwyn is related to Eris or Lucien

If it was Elain/Az

Az will need to have a talk with Mor [whoever Az ends up with he needs to have a talk with Mor before]

Az is training the Valkyrie’s so Gwyn and Emerie are around

Elain needs to have a talk with Lucien

If its Elain/Lucien

Az and Elain will need to have a talk

Lucien will need to have a talk with Eris and his mother (and Helion)

Mor/Emerie

Az and Mor need to have a talk

Emerie is best friends with Gwyn

Mor and Eris need a talk

I think it would be too complicated if each couple had their own book as a lot of story lines cross over. There is also the main story happening along this and the potential crossover.

Anyway this is just my theory on all this. I hope it makes sense and please be nice to each other in the comments, it’s just a book!!!!!

The Maya Myths by Mallory E Matsumoto - Started this year I started with a non fiction book. It was interesting to learn about Mayan myths and culture. The only issue I had was with the layout of the book which I find is quite a regular thing with this publishers myth series.

Heated Rivalry/The Long Game by Rachel Reid - Ok so I watched the TV show and decided to read the books. I loved them. They were amazing and I can understand the hype behind the books and the show. Shane and Ilya were brilliant main characters and a bonus for no stupid third act breakup. I do think The Long Game would of flowed better if I had read the books before it in the series. These books don’t shy away from tough subjects like mental health and the fear of coming out, and they are depicted perfectly. Definitely recommend these books.

Shadows & Crowns series by S.M. Gaither - There are 5 books in this series: The Song of the Marked, A Twist of the Blade, The Call of the Void, A Crown of the Gods, and The Queen of the Dawn. This series started out strong for me. A girl with strange powers meets the dark and handsome captain and they die over she is very powerful and important. Typical romantasy outline and I was falling for it (I kinda knew what I was getting into). The plot and world building had great potential, it was the characters and their relationships that was the let down. The main romance had no chemistry, we were just told they loved each other but there was no build up. The found family was very 2 dimensional. It all resolved around the female main characters and outside of her they had no personality. (And every characters favourite word was ‘also’). Towards the end books were left on massive cliffhangers that were resolved in the first chapter of the next book with no consequences. Moral of the story don’t buy the whole series after reading just the first book!!

Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver - This was a re read. I loved it the first time and my opinion hasn’t changed. I think I have a soft spot for book boyfriends called Rowan.

Where Summer Left Us by Patricia Prior - Finally a second chance romance where the main characters aren’t idiots. The MMC breaks her heart so she follows her dreams and when she returns they reconnect. The FMC over the years had time to think on their brief relationship and after knowing the MMC for years came to understand why he did it. She did tell him how stupid it was.

Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule - 2026 is going to be the year I finish The High Republic series, so I started the re read. I loved this book because you get to see the Jedi for what they are suppose to be, not the corrupted Jedi you see in the prequels. Space fight, lightsaber fight and just more Star Wars lore.

This book follows Elowen Atarah, the lost Imirath princess and the current Astilian queen who was tortured as a child by her father for being bonded to five dragons. She is determined to free her dragons even if it means allying herself with Cayden Veles, the Commander of Vareveth - the most feared and dangerous man in all the kingdoms. HINT: It's a steamy romance.

The plot sounds good. However, it wasn't executed well. For starters, Cayden is the commander but doesn't need to obey the king - why not just make him a prince commander? No - because he has to have a tragic backstory. Elowen is considered the queen of a new nation - but doesn't do anything and the heist that was promised in the blurb doesn't happen until way into the book's second half. Overall the writing wasn't as good and I feel this book needed a lot of editing.

The Romance: I loved some scenes, but a lot of the romance happened off-page, meaning it felt very instant love. Moreover in the final five pages after they had confessed their feelings and gotten together the author created a conflict so the two MCs could spend the next book with more sexual tension. It came out of nowhere and was pointless.

I liked the plot even though it wasn't executed well, and I enjoyed some scenes, so I gave this book 3 stars. However, I won't be reading the next book.
