My first 5k race since high school cross country. Didn’t run at the pace I wanted to, but I definitely had fun. If you’ve never done a color run, I highly recommend it. Granted, my throat hurt a bit the next day from inhaling all that powder but it’s non-toxic and you get a fancy medal (who doesn’t love medals).
My favorite part of races are the people you meet along the way. The entire running community amazes me. Sure, there are people who are extremely competitive and can be a bit intimidating, but overall it is a very accepting and nurturing community.
When I ran my first marathon (just trying to survive the race, with a walk/run pace of around 20 min/mile) so many people encouraged me. I wanted to quit so many times and I even cried but the people around me never belittled me or put me down. Instead they lifted me up and cheered me on. This is why I love running.
There are so many clubs and communities out there that take runners of all abilities. This come as you are attitude inspires me to do better each day. I hope to incorporate more races in my training schedule and meet more incredible people along the way.
So I ran a 5k recently...
